When good root canals go bad

Well, apparently I have a very bad infection, as I have absolutely agonizing pain from the lower jaw/throat right up into the ear and up the side of my face. (Yesterday I was merely sore/uncomfortable, as one might expect.) I popped into the endodontist's office first thing this morning to ask for pain killers and he gave me a prescription for 2 antibiotics plus Tylenol 3s. (I've been awake since 12:30 AM, unable to sleep with the pain.) I filled the prescriptions at the drugstore on our campus, rather than my regular pharmacy (not easily accessible to me today), then came home. I've taken the first (double dose) of antibiotics and now am waiting to see if I have a life-threatening reaction to them. As for the Tylenol 3s, I'm too scared to take them!  So, guys, there's a reason I heard so many horror stories from people who have had root canals! Peace . P.S. If you feel like sending some healing energy, I wouldn't object.

Spoke at Length with the Vet

I met with the vet this afternoon and was with her for about 40 minutes. She felt a round of antibiotic (Baytril) to tackle the secondary infection Annie probably has from both her bladder inflammation and upper respiratory infection was worth a try. We have discussed euthanasia and how I want it done (i.e. Annie sedated first), that I was her cremated and want her ashes, etc. I have told her that I will not hospitalize Annie again, or tube-feed (she's not big on syringe feeding anyway, something I wouldn't have done) or keep pumping endless meds into her. I'm trying this as one last shot, to give her a chance to rally. But Annie is tired, she's sick and if I don't see improvement on the ABs I will let her pass and be at peace. I did see that she ate the food I left out today (gave her an appetite stimulant this morning), and pooped a bit too, along with the tiny pee clumps. She's been up twice to have a bit of the boys' food, has gone back down to h...

Great...Annie's WORSE This Morning

An hour and twenty minutes till the vet clinic opens at 8AM. Annie is worse this AM, threw up (just foam) last night and this morning, has been dripping water-poop, poor baby. She doesn't even want scritches this morning, had only a bit of chicken juice from the tin of Almo that I opened. I thought she would show improvement today, because it's been over 24 hours since her last dose of Clavamox, but she's worse. So she's keeping to the dark basement, while I sit up here and worry and fret and wait till 8AM rolls around. Emailed my boss that I didn't know when I be in. Apparently Bugsy's 90+-day diarrhea started after he was given Clavamox for his UTI back in the fall. Great. Just great. I appreciate all the purrs and support...I feel helpless because I know she feels awful and there's not much I can do about it. P.S. Just FYI: It's -27C this morning, with a windchill of -34C. I hate winter. P.P.S. Annie has a 10:40AM appt with another vet...

Annie + Clavamox = Miserable

Image
Annie was okay for the first five doses but after yesterday's supper time one, she was off her food and hanging out in the basement. Ditto this morning. She's only come up now for a few licks of some "broth" leftover in Nicki's dish, nothing solid (it's 9:40AM on Sunday). Dr. Ross had said to stop the antibiotics if she went off her food, so I'm not going to give her the PM dose or tomorrow's either, will call the clinic first thing when they open. I'm not sure where we go from here, because if all antibiotics are going to put her off her food, she's going to be in serious trouble. *Sigh* Time for a bit of dark chocolate. Just one teeny piece. And I don't care that it's not 9:45AM yet! Then...a cup of tea. The answer to all ills, right? Pic snapped on the 8th, through my living room window. The haughty look.
