Musings on a Small Life

I'm taking a half-day today, rather a last minute thing  but okayed by the "big" boss. It's payday, so there's always lots to do, too much for one weekend, and it's nice to have a few extra hours to get a jump start on the errands. So I'll wish everyone a lovely weekend and leave you with some pics from lunch time yesterday, and a couple of inspirational graphics from my FB feed. Peace .          

I took one of my bathroom vanity doors to Home Depot yesterday and ordered two custom doors via Renuit . It'll be 4 to 5 weeks before they come in. Too bad my doors weren't a standard size, I could have bought replacement ones off the shelf. I ordered this "7000 Series" style, below, but in the white lacquer, middle option, top row. There must be some trick to getting doors back on and hanging straight, though, as I couldn't manage it. My old door is crooked now, but after fussing with it for far too long, I gave up and put my energies into doing a second coat on the bathroom trim Chuck had installed last weekend . I'll have to consult a YouTube video on getting doors back on properly. As for the trim, this quick snapshot is blurry, but you still can see how great it looks (IMO). I love it! I thought it looked terrific last weekend, unpainted, but wow, two coats of trim paint makes it look fantastic . (Or that could be because I'm so used to...

I had seen pics online of an easy and inexpensive way to perk up old bookcases (the Target or Ikea kind) with some fabric, poster board and double-sided tape, so today I made it my mission to find material on sale for my own two Target bookcases. (I'm not committed to keeping them, I'm waiting to see how I'll arrange the living space once the sofa gets here.) New fabric = a spot for a tussle!           All I did was measure, cut and tape the poster board to fit the back of the two bookcases, then use double-sided tape to attach the fabric to the poster board and then more tape to attach the poster board to the existing back of the bookcase. You don't want to look too closely, though, as it's not a perfect fit, and in fact the second one is every so slightly too long for the back, so is bunched up a bit. Way to go, Kim. LOL. That's okay, by using the poster boards, I can just just pull them off and have the original backings again. ...

"Shiny happy people holding hands...." I always think of this line from the R.E.M. song when I see daffodils.     Shiny, happy daffodil people.  :-) Comments are off, I had just snapped these at lunch time and since daffodils always make me feel, well, happy, I wanted to post the pics. 1. I want my new couch to be delivered! I'm tired of camping on the living room floor or perching on uncomfortable stools or chairs. First World problem -- I got rid of the old one, so have to suck it up till June (or whenever). 2. Nicki had his first coughing attack last night since June 2015. Not sure if it was a bona fide "asthma" attack, as it was purring-induced and started just before his 6 PM Flovent. Whatever the reason, I was disappointed, as he's at the maximum daily dose and there's nowhere to go with it. I hope it was just a one-off; perhaps the spring pollen is bothering him. I changed the charcoal pre-filter on the large air purifier in the living area, and replacement HEPA filters are on their way. (Those things cost a small fortune, though after hunting around on Amazon I did find a U.S. seller that makes its own cheaper generic ones to fit the Honeywell 300 series that I have.) 3. At long, long last the forsythia outside our office building is in bloom. I don't think it was in flower yesterday morning, but I noticed late this morning it was finally in full glory.   A lot of daffodils are in bloom now too. I'm just waiting for the ones outside our office suite, on the north side of the building, to do their thing, so I can get a few snapshots, as I do every year. But I did spy other blooms on the way home yesterday, not sure what they are (below).   There is no better time of year for me than Spring. Every cell of my body just seems to (figuratively) open and drink it in. Sheer bliss! Peace .

Or in this case, a lot of help. Robin and her husband came up yesterday morning and spent most of the weekend here. He toiled away at my upstairs baseboard trim for two days, and she chauffeured me around on errands, made the best vegetarian pizza ever (for supper Saturday) and then got my little back space all tidied up this morning. All those short cuts and uneven floors!  Notice Nicki helping her, below. Other than my floor guy--and he was being paid for it--I don't think I've ever seen someone work as hard as Chuck. He absolutely toiled away up there, with the all the finicky cuts, and he did it all by hand. I have to paint it sometime soon! For the first time in many, many years, I have baseboards in the upper hall, plus new baseboards in the bathroom and my bedroom. It looks frickin' awesome up there, and it all just needs some paint (which I recently purchased). The other thing Chuck did for me was put up a newly-purchased living room cur...
