Groundhogs and birds and squirrels, oh my!

I took one of my bathroom vanity doors to Home Depot yesterday and ordered two custom doors via Renuit. It'll be 4 to 5 weeks before they come in. Too bad my doors weren't a standard size, I could have bought replacement ones off the shelf.

I ordered this "7000 Series" style, below, but in the white lacquer, middle option, top row.

There must be some trick to getting doors back on and hanging straight, though, as I couldn't manage it. My old door is crooked now, but after fussing with it for far too long, I gave up and put my energies into doing a second coat on the bathroom trim Chuck had installed last weekend. I'll have to consult a YouTube video on getting doors back on properly.

As for the trim, this quick snapshot is blurry, but you still can see how great it looks (IMO). I love it! I thought it looked terrific last weekend, unpainted, but wow, two coats of trim paint makes it look fantastic. (Or that could be because I'm so used to 30-year old chipped, narrow pine trim...or not having any at all.)

I hope to paint the upper hall trim next Sunday, barring unforeseen circumstances, then tackle the master bedroom trim after that.

Anyway, that was the work/reno part of Sunday.

The critter part comes in while walking from Home Depot over to the bus transfer point at the big mall. I went through Rotary Park, as I often do when I'm out that way. I got to see a groundhog and plenty of birds, including a heron.

I wish I could have been closer to Mr or Ms Groundhog!

This heron, below, had been on my side of the water and I startled him. (He startled me too!) I tried desperately to get a photo of him in mid-flight, because he was so close, but I couldn't get the camera to zoom and focus fast enough. I had to content myself with a pic of him on the far side.

Later in the afternoon, at home, Mr Squirrel, the bane of our existence, made himself comfy on the top of my fence.

He would not move! I was standing out on the step,
right at the edge, practically in his face, the little bugger.

 

 

The boys? They were outside at the time.

 

 

Just before I snapped this pic, I could see the squirrel on the other side of the sheeting (there's a gap, that's how he gets into the back space). He and Nicki were at each other. I rushed out, afraid of some injury to Nicki, and the squirrel took off. I like squirrels in general, but I really don't like this one in particular.

So that was Sunday's entertainment! I had been slightly annoyed that I had missed the bus from Home Depot over the mall, given that I was carrying my old vanity door, but now I'm glad I did, and chose to walk rather than wait the better of a half hour for another Sunday bus. Sometimes things do work out for the better!
