Monday Mancat Memories: Way too much snow!

Image
These are various snapshots from February 2008 ; I see we had A LOT of snow that month! (BTW, we have way too much snow in February 2023 too!) The boys were young and adventurous, of course--and always happy to be inside and cosy too. In order: Derry, Nicki (king of the hill), Nicki on the old couch, Derry having catnip play time, and Derry doing his impression of king of the hill. (Though Nicki did that better!) 💖 Next time I'll post from March 2008. It's fun, but very bittersweet, to look back through the old photos. I hope the stars align so I can adopt another fur baby at some point. :-) BTW, thank you all for your thoughts and prayers regarding my mom and dad. My dad has had heart arrhthymia for a number of years, well managed (and he's quite healthy and active), so when he told me that he has CHF, I was taken aback. It's my mom who has had health issue after health issue all her life; Dad's always been robust and, in my little girl's mind, ageless. But th...

The cat show is back on this weekend

Image
The annual Canadian Cat Fanciers Club cat show is taking place this weekend, for the first time since 2019. I hemmed and hawed about going, wasn't sure how I'd feel, but in the end went down for an hour or so this morning. It was harder walking in than I anticipated, and I just let the tears come. I find it pointless to try to suppress my emotions, it only makes things worse. I was okay after 10 - 15 minutes, so walked around for a while, disappointed in the small number of vendors and the lack of (rescue) housecats. They will have the "ordinary" housecats this weekend at some point, but I didn't see any while I was there, just various purebreds. I watched a bit of the judging (four rings going at once), but wasn't interested enough to sit down and watch for any length of time. There were a lot of kittens, obviously at their first show, many seemingly very scared and overwhelmed. I can't blame them, poor babies.  I ached to have my hands in kitty fur, but...

Happy Friday/weekend! Every single one of these is me!

Wordy Wednesday: Kindness and Love

Image
Ann at  Zoolatry  had proposed that posts on Wednesdays in February reflect love, friendship, kindness, and caring. For this last Wednesday of February, I'm posting a simple April 2010 collage of my angel fur babies,  whom I always will love with my entire heart and soul, as well as a  few quotes from The Random Acts of Kindness Foundation . Chumely in the middle, who was my mentor. Annie along the top, who was my emotional support. Nicki along the bottom, who was my...challenge. He taught me that life is to be lived with abandon and without fear, with full-on gusto each day. Derry in the four squares left and right of centre, who was my "baby," the light of my days, such a gift and blessing in my life. ******** Our world definitely is suffering from a lack of kindness (and respect and love). This is not new, humans have always hated, have always been bigoted and racist, have always fought and killed for power and resources. But I do think that our world of social m...

Presqu'ile, duck drama and maybe a kitty ghost

Image
This will be a mish-mash of things, and probably very long/picture-heavy (birds!), so feel free to skip it. Friends R & C came up for a visit on Sunday February 12th, and I went back with them for a couple of days, for a much-needed mini-getaway. Time with friends, out in Nature, is the best kind of therapy, IMO. Above, we had gone to Presqu'ile Provincial Park late Sunday afternoon and again on Tuesday morning, walked along one of the trails where the birds (mostly chickadees) are accustomed to being fed. However, we got lucky, as there were two nuthatches around, one of whom was persuaded (with much patience) to come down to us. The first pic above is mine, the second was snapped by R -- that's my gloved hand holding up the seed. What a joy! The chickadees were plentiful; the one above was on R's hand. Below, Miss Kitty, the stray Siamese that R & C took in several years ago. She's a spoiled princess now, as she should be. More pics from the two-day visit: I r...

Monday Mancat Memories: Snow Fun

Image
More snapshots from January 2008. In order: Derry (oh, that sweet face I miss so much) Derry Nicki (with that long tail) Derry (in the pot) Nicki (in the deeper snow) Derry, Nicki, and Annie too for the last snapshot. It was very rare to get a pic of all three in the same frame, as Annie hated Nicki (he bullied her, as he often bullied Derry too). Next week I'll find something from February 2009. 💖

Wordy Wednesday: Annie high on "love"

Image
Ann at  Zoolatry  had proposed that posts on Wednesdays in February reflect love, friendship, kindness, and caring. I'm a bit tongue-in-cheek with this, but here are a few pics of angel Annie demonstrating how much she LOVED the catnip I had given her. Long-time followers of this blog will have seen these, possibly more than once. The snapshots are from July 2009. Of my four cats, she loved catnip the most, I think! 💖
