I'm not THAT old...Oh, wait, yes I am!

Image
We have a student starting tomorrow for the summer, and he emailed me earlier to ask what his work hours would be, if he needed to bring anything, etc.. Hi Ms Last Name , he wrote. I replied, told him to call me "Kim," that we're all informal here. I didn't say that calling me "Ms Last Name" makes me feel ancient. (He's about 21 years old, a real cutie, reminds me of my "old" boss's elder son at that age.) I gave him the info he needed, and then only afterward realized that I've been working here, in (essentially) the same office, for more than half his life ! OMG! Too funny! It's a bit of a whap upside the head when things like happen, even though age really is only a number and we can feel like we're many different ages throughout just one day. Anyway, it was just a head-shaking moment for me.  :-) Two other cuties, who also are "ageless" to me: Nicki and Derry having a good roll yesterday ...

A new bus passenger

Image
This little robin was inside our bus shelter yesterday morning, perhaps waiting to greet the super-nice driver. You have to look closely to see he's on the inside of the plexiglass!     We (me and the other woman from my complex who takes the bus at the same time) were trying to gently shoo him out, and as you can see, he got scared and pooped. Not scared enough to fly out, though! Eventually he slipped out and onto the grass behind the shelter, then flew off. I have no idea why he was in there -- maybe he flew into the glass and was stunned for a bit? Whatever the reason, he didn't seem to be injured, thankfully. I wouldn't mind inter-species bus passengers. Actually, some of the two-leggeds on our public transit seem like other species.  :-P Peace .

The dynamic duo (not mine)

Image
Finn and Carla (two different homes), making an appearance as I was headed to catch the bus early Saturday morning. As a reminder, Carla despises my boys and they despise her too. Nicki gets his back up when Finn's around the fence as well, but doesn't go as ballistic as when it's Carla.   Carla has serious attitude and isn't exactly friendly. I've never attempted to pat her; I value my hands too much, thanks.     Then on Sunday I saw this ginger boy/girl while walking home from errands. Somewhere in my pics I'm sure I have a few other snapshots of him/her (it's not Oscar, though--different area).  Yet another feline who seems unimpressed with a camera-wielding human. So the not-quite-freezing weather is bringing everyone out, it would seem.  :-) It's also bringing out some blooms!           As for my two, well, Nicki had an asthma (?) attack Saturday evening. He was in the bathroom with me, purring u...

Life Lesson #563

When you're putting paper towel on your lap, to use as a napkin for your lunch, you want to be sure that said paper towel wasn't actually the melted-cheese-covered piece used to microwave said lunch. However, should you happen to err and actually do this, you can (mostly) scrape said melted cheese from your slacks, using a knife, and blot the rest with wet paper towel. And hope you don't spend the rest of the day smelling like cheddar. Thus endeth today's lesson.

Choosing our words

Image
I walked to the shopping centre this morning, to pick up the bus downtown. It was 0C/32F and I was bundled in my lined, cosy fall/spring coat, wearing a scarf and mitts. At that time of the morning there are a few out walking their dogs or walking for exercise, and I passed a woman who said to me, brightly and enthusiastically, that it was quite refreshing out. I replied that "refreshing" was a good word to use and laughed, continued on my way. But then I thought about what she said, how she said it. I was freezing my ass off, even warmly dressed, and my choice of word would not have been "refreshing." Yet she had a positive (and not sarcastic) view of the abnormally cold spring temperature. It was a good reminder to me to be aware of my inner and outer dialogue, my own choice of words. Because it does matter to our perspectives on life. *** Anyway, in spite of our chilly weather (what happened to the high teens Celsius of last Saturday???), the forsythia i...

Semi-Wordless Wednesday with the Boys

What has caught their attention?  :-)       Have a great day, everyone. I guess 9:39 AM is too early for a glass of wine (at work)....but thank the gods, not for chocolate! Peace .

A Scraggly Day

Image
It's a scraggly Monday here. I feel scraggly--scraggly hair (washed and frizzy in spite of conditioner), cat hair and dander covered clothes, dark circles under the eyes....Typical Monday! Someone else was scraggly, from rolling. Nothing out of the ordinary for the past week. My ear issue is resolved, I'm back to my normal congestion and head-fuzziness, but hey, I can hear again, which is awesome. Nice weekend -- Saturday was gorgeous, weather-wise, and I started a bit of back space clean up. Not that there's much to do, considering how small the area is, but it, too, is scraggly from the winter. The boys had a grand time, lots of sun puddles and tussles. I'll post some of their snapshots here this week, since I now have taken a few hundred so far this month. I went to Value Village yesterday to look for a "new" comforter for the bed, but didn't find anything in that department. I did, however, get a cute purse, surprisingly roomy for its smal...

I highly recommend 4 day weekends

Image
I took Friday as a vacation day (my birthday, as some already know) and I'm off tomorrow too. I highly recommend a four-day weekend, wish I could work 80% and still be paid 100% of salary, benefits and pension. Wouldn't we all?  :-) Friday it poured rain most of the day and I spent the morning and early afternoon running errands and doing housework. Always a fun way to celebrate. LOL. I had a doctor's appointment in the afternoon (switched from the 13th) and I'm so glad I went then. It was a different resident this time, and she was very thorough. Doesn't think my leg issues are anything other than mechanical and/or a pinched/blocked nerve or nerves. But she's sending me for blood work to check for common illnesses that would have this as a symptom, as well to check my B12 level. I told her that I doubted it was a B12 deficiency, since this only started 5 - 6 weeks after I started physio. They'll also send me for an MRI, though that will take a while. Ho...

Another short week for me

Image
Happy Easter Monday, and yes, I'm at work (on my lunch hour, I swear). I'm off Friday and next Monday too, so am looking forward the shorter work weeks. The weekend was pretty good. Friday was gorgeous, plus 9 Celsius at the airport (near the water), but a few degrees warmer away from the Lake. I had some of the windows open for a little while, first time since last fall, and spent the day doing the house chores. Jacquie Lawson ecard Saturday we were back to winter temps, with a windchill of minus 10 Celsius, and I ventured out, bundled up, only because I needed groceries and cat food. By the time I got home around noon, the next door neighbours had taken off, as it turned out overnight, so I had peace and quiet for the remainder of Saturday and all day Sunday. Hurrah! Yesterday I went to the Easter service at a downtown Anglican church, felt like hearing Easter music. There's an older woman who takes the bus in my neighbourhood and she's a warden and voluntee...
