Tuesday Tussle

Image
From Sunday, after I got home. Apparently the sunshine made the boys feel like a good tussle session or two. Apologies for the poor quality of the pics; I just grabbed the closest camera at hand, which was the little Nikon p&s. It's even worse for indoor shots than my other cameras! (Snapping into the sun didn't help, either.) Most of the pics were too blurry to save, only these were somewhat salvageable.                     They tussled twice, then gave up to nap.  :-) Peace .

Shades of Grey

Image
And not of the 50 variety, of which I have no interest at all. No, of the Confederation Basin Marina in winter kind.  :-) I popped downtown early yesterday morning, before running errands in the west end, and with a chai latté in hand, snapped a few pics at the downtown marina. Grey on grey on grey, though the sun finally did make an appearance a bit later in the morning. We had a few centimeters of snow Saturday night, so everything looked fresh yesterday morning. Click to enlarge the snapshots for better viewing. The Murney Tower, with Wolfe Island in the distance.   City Hall, below.       It was nice to be down there without masses of people. There were only a few out and about.       The Spirit of Sir John A.     The ferry coming in.       Looking toward Wolfe Island.     Some of the Wolfe Island windmills.     Looking west of the marina at a waterfron...

Spring Teaser

Image
A co-worker celebrated her birthday on the 26th, and her daughter (who lives and works overseas) sent her these flowers. Of course I asked to borrow them to snap a few macro shots!         Every cell of my body seems to be "inhaling" the colour! A welcome bit of cheer, even only in pics, in an otherwise grey and dreary winter landscape. Peace .

What, am I still living in Halifax?

Image
In spite of all the weather forecasts for a "traditional" Canadian winter, so far, what we've had more of is grey skies, fog, freezing rain, rain, and a slushy, snowy mess. It's like living in Halifax all over again, without the proximity to salt water. Early yesterday morning coming in to work. Right now I would take cold temps and sunshine over this. We had one glimpse of the late afternoon setting sun a few days ago (snapped from my bedroom window). On the plus side, I've hardly had to wear extra layers under my clothes, and I'm wearing short-sleeved tee-shirts under my cardigans. (That has nothing to do with my age and hormonal state, I'm sure.) As for other trivial things: The Ikea mirror should arrive today. (Remember the $169 shipping charge for a $40 mirror? It was a website error, so I went ahead and placed the order.) I had to order a new pet fountain for the boys, as the pump on the one they had quit. It had stopped worki...

I haven't forgotten you, dear Chum

Image
It will be 10 years tonight that Chumley died unexpectedly. I'm not going to dwell on it, but I won't let the date pass without acknowledging that I still love him, still think of him daily. When I'm frustrated with Nicki's and Derry's never-ending neediness, I think of Chumley. Everything I do for them is in honour of him, because I knew so little about cats when he was with me and didn't understand how depressed I was and how that affected my behaviour. I can't give Chum a do-over, but I can make sure I take the best care possible of my boys, because of him, for him. My darling Chum, I will love you forever. Wait for me.

The new addition to the family (no, not four-legged)

Image
I was in HomeSense this morning, just to browse around, and saw this: It's a door stop -- they had a larger one that weighed a ton (I could barely lift it off the shelf), not something to take home on the bus with other packages and groceries in hand. The larger one also was more than I was willing to pay. But this little guy or gal, at $10, was perfect. Derry, however, appears to be less than enthused. Well, at least the owl wasn't something feathered or furry and breathing! That really would have gotten the boys' furry knickers in a twist. :-D I hope you're having a good weekend so far. Peace .

Really, Ikea?

Image
Anyone see what's wrong with this? I've given you a hint. Click to enlarge. Righhhhtttttt. I don't think so. I've emailed them twice, with the JPG attached. Not surprisingly, I've not heard back. I even posted it on their FB page and asked if it was a web site error; no response. Good thing I really don't need a new mirror. And even if I did, I'd be looking locally, thank you very much.  I was home sick yesterday (severe headache that started on Wednesday and was worse yesterday), but feel better today.  Nicki, unfortunately, had another asthma attack this morning, four days after his last one. Rats. If this trend continues, obviously I have to look at adding in either a bronchodilator or perhaps Prednisolone for the short term. That was his third attack since his dental on the 5th.  Otherwise, they seem to be okay. Pics from yesterday, through the patio door glass.   At least it's Friday. I can't say the day ...

I lost the bet

Image
I wrote yesterday that I'd bet dollars to doughnuts that Canon US wouldn't respond to my spam issue, but they did! Nothing they can do at their end, of course--she referred me to Google. I didn't think they could do anything, but I'm impressed they responded at all. So, that should teach me not to write off customer service from big business. (From Telus, yes. But that's another story. LOL.) I got home yesterday to find all the donation items removed. Hurrah! They had taken the sign off my garage and stuffed it into my mailbox, and scrunched up the tarps behind my deck box on the step, to keep them safe from the wind. That's two down (the donations) and one to go (the junk pick up). I feel particularly good about having donated the tools to Habitat for Humanity, though. Right decision. I might take a gander through the house for any small items I can dispose of at this time, as I have an aunt visiting (for the first time in years, we...

Finally a real post

Image
I still don't really understand what's going on with the blogger/spam issue, in spite of someone (repeatedly) trying to explain what she thinks has happened. A hack at the Blogger end of things? I saw those spam posts in a secondary Feedly account I have, when I checked it over the weekend, so it's not just coming from whatever email Blogger uses when you subscribe to feeds. Whatever. I did forward the text of the spam email on to Canon US, but would bet dollars to doughnuts I'll never get a response from them. So, onward. Nicki's back to eating his bit of kibble daily now, and is doing fine other than another asthma attack before his Flovent this morning (previous one was ten days ago, the day after his dental). Crappity crap, but it is what it is. The boys spent part of yesterday being tormented by a couple of the squirrels, one of the grey fellows and one of the black. (I didn't get a good pic of the grey one.)     Derry out on ...
