Musings on a Small Life

It seems far longer than only two weeks since I spent a few days with friends in Brighton. I took lots of critter pics besides the swans, and the ones dearest to my heart were the horse and pony. BTW, it's great to be on mostly-deserted county roads, it allows you to come to sudden stops and back up without endangering anyone.  :-) There actually was another pony, but s/he wasn't in the mood to be photographed and ambled off into the trees when we approached. The bay gelding and grey pony were more accommodating. Of course all they really wanted were the bits of grass Robin fed them, no interest in us per se. Still, it gave me a chance to give (the gelding) a good neck scratch, and to admire them both. I'll take more of that in my life, please.  :-) Peace.

I don't often get pics of the boys tussling anymore, partly because they don't do it outside as much and partly because their matches tend to be much shorter than they were in younger years. But I did manage to grab a camera and snap a few pics on Sunday the 15th. I loved Derry's glower, his stare-down at the end, and as you'll see, Nicki called it quits first this time. I think you'll have to enlarge the pics, since there's way too much light in all of them, and the boys' expressions are hard to see otherwise.       Comments are off, have a great Tuesday! Peace.

I have a few pics that fall under the "funky" category from my visit with friends last week. Check this out, a blow/puffer fish lamp, found at the antique/vintage store where Penny resides: Words fail me. It definitely qualifies as funky. The piano, below, might be more interesting than funky per se. Either way, it's pretty neat. It's on the main street in Cobourg, ON and has a bona fide old letter scrawled across it, the front and both sides. I wish I could recall what the letter was about and who it was addressed to. The piano is there for anyone to play. Maybe not quite funky, but definitely intriguing to me, was this house complex on one of the country roads in the area. The main (?) house seems to be modeled after a tiny house, though it's definitely larger. I would have loved to talk to the owners, get a tour of the place. While I was in Brighton, we went down to the water outside of Presqu'ile Park , to look for swans. Robin had said there was a swan family, and while I wasn't hopeful they'd be there on my visit, they were indeed! (All snapshots are best viewed enlarged, as always.) Mr. Swan  Mrs. Swan and their "teenager"    The cygnet   On the way back, mom and little one had moved into the water.   We saw two or three other pairs of swans as well, but no more babies.       Seeing them was fantastic for me! These are but a few of the many snapshots I took, and oh, it was hard to whittle them down to just a "few". I have many other photos to post, but I don't think anything else will top these wonderful birds. Peace.

I just spent a couple of days with friends in Brighton and now am wading through all the snapshots I took during our jaunts. I had 672 pics, plus about 60 on the cell phone, whittled that down to 222 on the camera and 50 on the phone. What can I say? I can't help myself! I'll have lots to post for a bit, and I'll start with Penny, the store cat the antique market in Colborne.  We'd gone last fall when I was visiting, and while we didn't set out to return this time, we missed a turn off for "Little Lake" and so ended up there. That turned out to be fortuitous for Robin, who found a couple of items that "spoke to her heart", and for us both, as we got to see Penny again. Penny is a licker, she licks anyone who starts to pet her. We both thought she was a very senior cat, perhaps because she's so petite, not much but fur, but it turns out she's only 6-ish, adopted from a humane society. She also doesn't seem to be very a...

I was walking one of the waterfront paths early on Saturday morning, before errands, when I spied this muskrat family: At first, I thought there were four, but the last snapshot I got shows a family of five. (Enlarge the pic to see.) I think that's only the second time I've ever been close enough to muskrats to get any kind of pic, even ones at full zoom. I thought it was pretty neat!  :-) A few other pics from Saturday AM: Sophie and Grace, below. If I remember correctly, Grace is the older of the two, the one not keen on the water. Sophie, however, was happy to splash about and cool off.   It was nice to be out before it got too hot, and I met many others either walking for exercise or strolling with their dogs, all with the same idea.
