Swan Song

While I was in Brighton, we went down to the water outside of Presqu'ile Park, to look for swans. Robin had said there was a swan family, and while I wasn't hopeful they'd be there on my visit, they were indeed! (All snapshots are best viewed enlarged, as always.)

On the way back, mom and little one had moved into the water.
 
We saw two or three other pairs of swans as well, but no more babies.
 
 
 
Seeing them was fantastic for me! These are but a few of the many snapshots I took, and oh, it was hard to whittle them down to just a "few".

I have many other photos to post, but I don't think anything else will top these wonderful birds.

There is always something graceful about beautiful swans. Our local park, close to my parents had lots of geese and swans that were a bit scary especially if you took food for them. We had to usually wind down the window of the car and throw small bits out at a time as we were scared of getting bitten.

They can be really nasty, especially when protecting their young. I wouldn't dare go too close, even to birds that are accustomed to humans stopping to ooh and ahh over them.

As usual, you’ve taken wonderful photographs. I like the family pictures but the penultimate image is my favourite. It looks like a swan is boasting about how beautiful he is.

The reflection of the swan in the first photo makes the photo very interesting to look at. It is a regal pose as those birds are so beautiful. Lovely set of photos Kim.

It was wonderful to see them! A rare treat for me. In the spring there were swans that I saw for a few weekends, passing by on the bus, but that was all. In my "normal" life I'm not anywhere in the vicinity of them.

Oh how beautiful. Thank you for being there in time to capture these gems. Seeing mom and her baby is just...well...precious. I love how they ride on their mama's backs. And her getting ready to fly (I believe that was what was happening) is glorious to see. They are so beautiful. How fortunate to see them person with your owners. I have never had that pleasure

It was a very rare treat for me! I remember once, some years ago, seeing 2 black swans flying overhead as I was heading into Walmart. It would have been a Saturday or Sunday and while I don't recall the season, I presume spring, given they were flying north. That's the only time in my life I've ever had a glimpse of black swans and it truly was amazing!

I took a zillion snapshots of them, and it was hard to whittle them down. They make it so easy to get a half-decent shot, they're so photogenic.

The young one is a little homely but boy do they grow up to be gorgeous birds. The photos are fantastic! My fave is the first one - the reflection in the water is so interesting. It almost looks like he's trying to stare the other bird down.

Yes, the "baby" is in that awkward stage, no longer a cute, fluffy little one, not yet the elegant bird s/he soon will become. :-)

It was hard for me to choose which swan pics to post, I took so many!

It was really special for me to see them up close, as I don't get the opportunity to be anywhere around swans in my "normal", daily life. :-)
