Musings on a Small Life

I went downtown yesterday (Sunday the 26th) for a latté and a long walk along the waterfront paths. I did the same walk as I had done on January 12th, but what a difference two weeks of freezing temps has made! Two weeks ago the water was open, just ice on the rocks along the shoreline. Not now! The fellow in the above snapshot was drilling through the ice to fish. Originally I had thought to walk to Portsmouth Olympic Harbour and even into Lake Ontario Park, but after 90+ minutes of walking into the biting wind, I gave up and called it quits, waited for a bus to head for errands. It was great to be out...and it was also great to be indoors again, and cosy. LOL. Take care, all!

I've got nothing to report on or new pics to share. It's beeping cold out and I've officially reached my tolerance for winter, as I do every year around the latter part of January. 🙄😆 Hopefully I haven't posted these before, but if I have, oh well, too bad! 😁 If you're enduring the cold now too, stay warm and safe!

I went for an hour an half walk yesterday morning along the waterfront "trail" and to downtown. Now I know where all the ducks and geese are hanging out right now!   I have no idea what kind of water bird this is. I was surprised to see this merganser, I thought they were here more in spring/fall migrations.  It was a "mild" morning, but I didn't take into account how raw it would be right on the Lake. Brrrr. I didn't linger anywhere!   There were joggers (mostly students, as I was near campus) and a few dog walkers, but not as many people as I had expected. The greylag goose (centre right) is called "Hank" on our city's sub-reddit. I've taken pics of him before, he hangs around with this flock of geese. He's a long way from his natural home. (Unless he's a domestic escapee.) It was a lovely walk, but it was even better when I went for a London fog (tea latté) afterward! If it's chilly where you are, stay cosy! If it's warm ...

My normal routine resumed yesterday (i.e. work, appointments) and I had my first chiropractic appointment of the year. (Ah, there's nothing like having to bundle up and head out in the minus 20 Celsius windchill temps. So. Much. Fun.)   However, I was rewarded by getting to see Raye, the labradoodle of one of the front desk staff. She was about 12 weeks old (and big then) when I first met her at the latter part of November. She's a lot bigger now, all legs!   I'd says she's more "doodle" instead of "labra", with that curly-ish fur!       She was a very good girl, sat politely for the treat I gave her, courtesy of her mom. Very gentle, very sweet disposition. And a bonus pic of 12-year old Biscuit from the weekend, down at my favourite coffee shop. She was a cutie in her orange booties! I love that you don't have to go far in this city to get some fur therapy. :-)

I got together yesterday with a family friend, and after a light lunch at a west end café, we walked through Lemoine Point. It's a spot I haven't been in many years, for several reasons. Here are some cuties along the way. Finn One of the many fat squirrels looking for a handout.  Cain, adopted from an overseas country. His brother, Abel, went to his forever home elsewhere.  Another fat squirrel  Finally, a lucky shot of a nuthatch. A young girl was holding out her seed-filled palm to him, but he was undecided about the free food.  It was freezing out at the conservation area, but that didn't deter all the people who were there walking. The parking lots were quite full!  It was nice to catch up and walk somewhere I don't get to anymore. A good way to start the year.
