Tuesday Tales and Tails

Image
I think it's Tuesday; the long weekend has thrown me off more than I typically would be! Derry's tail, snapped in July. Love the cute curve. No "tales", really, just a bit of a mish-mash. It was a good thrift store weekend, especially at Value Village. I haven't been into ours more than two or three times since the pandemic started, and I lucked in this time by finding ten books (mysteries), eight tops for the fall/winter, and a sweet fabric shower curtain as a spare for the new bathroom. (The shower curtain is old, but very pretty and girly, my kind of thing. I think it will become my spring/summer one.) Derry on Saturday, checking out the new shower curtain. Derry got a new cat tree a couple of weekends ago, mostly because he wasn't using the larger one. So I found a small one at Pet Valu and moved the big one up to the guest room, where he can get to it via the bed. I've been looking at cat trees online, particularly on Wayfair.ca, because they have a f...

"In the morning light"

Image
Taking a break from last week's snapshots, here are a few snapped "in the morning light". Comments are off, have a lovely weekend! Below, early Sunday morning, walking by the marshy conservation area (that's being destroyed for the vehicle overpass for the train tracks).   In the cemetery on Monday morning. The first pic, below, didn't come out as I wanted, those leaves actually were a glorious red.     Wonderful sky on Wednesday the 12th, coming in to the office.   Peace .

I should have been an endodontist

Image
I had the consult with the endodontist yesterday morning regarding my needed root canal. A few minutes of his time, a bit of tapping on some lower teeth, and it was $110. Fortunately my health insurance will reimburse me the full amount. The actual root canal, not scheduled until October 24th, is estimated to be $1697, tax in. How much of that my insurance will cover remains to be seen. If they haven't sent me an email with that info by the end of next week, I'll give them a call or send them an email. I just couldn't be a dentist or a dental specialist, but oh boy, if you have the stomach for it, you're in the money. Big time! The week has been ordinary otherwise. Lovely fall weather at the moment: cool mornings, warming up to low to mid-20s C as the day progresses. Perfect. Take care, everyone. Random sky shots from last weekend       Peace .

On the move (geese, that is)

Image
Between 6:30 and 6:45 AM, five large flocks of geese flew overhead, heading north. They're early this year...I hope I won't seem them turning around and coming back tomorrow.  :-) Yes, those black specks are geese. I was lucky to even snap anything that quickly. The sky with its cloud cover was lovely this morning anyway, even without the geese.   On a house reno note, the floor guy had arranged to stop by today around 5:30 PM to deliver all the laminate, but he already was waiting in his truck when I got home around 4:45. I had paid for 22 boxes, realized only after the fact that I got 21. I called the store to let them know, I'm sure it was a simple and honest mistake. He can bring the missing box when he comes on Saturday to do the upper hall. In the meantime, I'll have three piles of laminate "decorating" my main level until I can get it installed, hopefully next month (14 boxes are downstairs, 7 are upstairs). Tomorrow is my "F...

How did autumn roll around again so quickly?

Image
I swear, every year the seasons pass more quickly. I don't know how it's fall again so soon...it was just fall. Thanks for all the neat comments on your dream house! I could live in any number of styles of home, really, provided the house was small, as maintenance-free as possible, and with tons of natural light. You know what I'd love indoors ? A waterfall feature with a living wall! Now that would be fantastic for my mental health through our horrendous winters. Of course, my preferred geographic location has three seasons, winter NOT being one.  :-) Anyway, I'm plugging away at a huge stack of papers on my desk, so will just post some sky pics from yesterday morning's walk to the shopping centre to catch a bus in to work. Robin from A Bird's Life has me taking more sky snapshots lately. I used to take a lot, but have become humdrum about them over the years. But thanks to her posts, I'm paying more attention lately--and taking the time to sn...

Twiddling My Thumbs All Day

Image
Well, not quite. A lot of extra sleeping -- or at least resting -- because my body has crashed from the stress/adrenaline. I look like something one of the cats would puke up. No call from the on-duty vet; gee, why am I not surprised? It's been very hard today to go without hearing how Annie is doing. By now she must have given up all hope of coming home. Okay, I know non-humans live more in the moment, but still...I really need her to come home soon. The vet had said, referring to the x-ray, that she had those few inches of stool left, then her colon was clear. So has she passed it all? If I hear her say tomorrow that she has to pass yet another few inches I might scream. Define "few inches," then. Because "a few" means three. And I know she's passed at least that much. But I'm getting ahead of myself. Deep breath, repeat the mantra (thanks, Cheri, I've been saying it all weekend), wait and see what Dr. Buchanan says tomorrow. There's an A...

Last Evening's Sky

Nothing spectacular, just neat clouds.  :-)

I Dream of Genie

Image
There were vapour trails in the evening sky on Friday, and the spiral one reminded me of smoke from a genie's bottle. Maybe I ought to have called out three wishes.  :-)
