Is this still April?

Image
This showed up in my Pinterest feed a few days ago: Yeah, that's how it feels to me! Given the horrific events in Nova Scotia over the weekend, though, working from home and self-isolating is nothing. I lived in Halifax for 16 years before moving here, and like everyone else in the country, am stunned; this is incomprehensible. "Nova Scotia Strong" is trending now, and I snagged this graphic, variations of which are being widely used: My thoughts and prayers to all, because words fail me. I know of two "gofundme" events right now, to help victims' families, and there probably are more: https://ca.gofundme.com/f/in-memory-of-kristen-beaton and https://ca.gofundme.com/f/nova-scotia-family-of-3-tradegy . But I don't want to dwell on the sorrow here, I'm just going to post some recent snapshots taken on walks around the neighbourhood and down to the swamp. Most of these I've already posted on Instagram, so many of you will have see...

Angel Nicki's 13th Gotcha Day

Image
This would have been Nicki's 13th Gotcha Day. From the get-go he was such a brat and sometimes-bully, often obnoxious, yet so loving and sweet. That certainly never changed through his life!  We never know what will happen year-over-year (witness these months of global pandemic), so cuddle your fur companions close while you have the opportunity. That opportunity is lost all too soon. All my love, Nicki. I miss you, Mr. Purr Bug. Comments are off.

There might have been a piece of smooshed coconut cream pie involved

Image
Smooshed, and with a bite already taken (by me, of course). This is why my weight is trending in the wrong direction. :-P But it was good, even smooshed! **** Today (April 10) is my birthday, hence the sweet treat. It was proceeded by a quarter chicken leg and garlic green beans from Swiss Chalet, via the Door Dash delivery app. Worth the expense on a special occasion. It was a strange day, really. Typically I would take the day off work, though this year it's a holiday, being Good Friday. And typically I would take myself off to window shop, have a treat from a café, and pick up a slice of something yummy from a good bakery.  Not this year of course, and I think anyone who has a birthday (or anniversary or other special occasion) should choose a day in another month, when things are back to semi-normal, and have a re-do. I've decided I'm going to do just that, though it appears it won't be for some months yet. I only hope I can have that re-do befo...

And so week three begins

Image
Week three of working from home begins today. I'm glad to be able to work remotely*, it gives me some structure and focus to the week days. The weekends are more challenging, as those typically are the days I would run errands and shop, even if only for necessities. I find that while I now have the time, I actually don't have the motivation to learn a new language, take up some sort of new exercise routine, make inroads on my stack of books, or, ugh, deep clean the house. Really, all I'm doing, like most of us I suspect, is taking it one day at a time and just trying to survive as best as possible. I'm continuing to walk as much as possible, rambling around the quiet streets in the area. The big positive for me is that this year, at least, I feel like I'm able to appreciate my favourite season, Spring. I'm not rushing out the door to catch the bus, not rushing to get to the office or rushing to get home after a long day. So I...

A smile and some inspiration

Just in case anyone needs a smile or a bit of inspiration: The jokes are from my Pinterest feed, the inspiration from TinyBuddha.com . Be well and stay safe, everyone.   Peace and Universal Light to all.

Thursday thoughts

Image
First, I hope everyone is keeping well and that any fear and/or anxiety you might be experiencing isn't taking complete control. Or maybe you're blasé about everything. I'm not blasé at all, and I do have moments where, out of the blue, tears will roll down my face. Just moments of being overwhelmed by everything, and those moments pass. A couple of PSAs (public service announcements), one specifically for those of you in Canada, one more general: 1. If anyone is of the mind (and is financially able) to donate to COVID-19 relief at this time, Gore Mutual Foundation is matching donations right now, up to $2M: https://www.canadahelps.org/en/covid-19-fund/ . I sometimes donate through CanadaHelps.org and got a message with this info in my "in" box overnight. It's legit, not a scam. 2. If anyone is as paranoid as I am at going into stores for groceries, prescription pick-ups, etc., and would feel better wearing a mask, Etsy is a good source. I don...
