A "magical" morning

Image
I took an impromptu walk through the cemetery early this morning and spied this little fairy tucked into a tree trunk. (Click the pics to enlarge for a better view.) I hadn't been to the cemetery in a long time, probably about a year, and snapped a few other pics with my little pocket point and shoot. I was pleased to see that they now have two working fountain sprays again, below. When I was there last year they had only one, and for two or three years prior to that, they had none. (The old ones needed replacing and I guess COVID delayed that, as it did so many other things in our lives.) It was VERY buggy, and I quickly picked up a pesky deer fly, so I didn't linger, especially around the pond (so many mosquitoes). In spite of that, it was a peaceful walk, fewer than a dozen joggers/walkers around at that hour. The only "event" was that as I was heading out, I was looking up at a crabapple tree heavily laden with fruit, and I didn't see that the asphalt was crum...

Best. Walk. Ever.

In the cemetery, at any rate! I went early on Sunday morning, left the house around 6:45 AM and got there around 7:15 AM. It was the perfect time, before (most of) the morning walkers and bikers.    The critter tally: 6 wild turkeys innumerable squirrels and chipmunks several bullfrogs a zillion mosquitoes (sucking my blood) a pair of (I think) common mergansers perched way up on a dead tree trunk (light not good to get a decent snap, but I took some anyway) 2 rabbits (one in the cemetery, one young one on the way out that I wasn't able to get a pic of) 2 groundhogs 1 snake as I was walking home past the swamp several ducks (also in the swamp), got a snap of only two males  A selection of snapshots follows, with apologies to those who already have seen most of them on Instagram. I had to lighten this one quite a bit, and it's blurry too. I think they're mergansers, taking a rest stop, I guess. I make no apologies for posting bird pics, if the Tabbies happen to see this. Ahh, Friday

Image
I love a three-day work week. Monday was our Victoria Day holiday and I took Tuesday as a vacation day, plus Ontario universities (all? most?) were given Friday the 21st as a bonus day off, a thank-you for pandemic efforts. Bonus! I got my first Pfizer vaccination on Friday (the 21st) and hope that the Ontario government will move up the date of the second dose for everyone. (Currently my second one is slated for September 10th.) I had been worried about it going in, but my goodness, I couldn't even tell she had injected me, the needle must have been so fine (I never watch, needles are NOT my thing). I sat for an extra 10 minutes beyond the requisite 15, just because I was so stressed about it, about going into anaphylactic shock. The two monitors, both older healthcare workers, were very kind. Anyway, I have a slew of pics from the past couple of weeks, walks to and from the grocery stores and a couple of jaunts into the nearby cemetery. I see that  Blogger is not allowing me to i...
