Flipping Out

Image
I needed a small hairstyle change, so have decided to let my hair do its natural "flippy" thing, after some years of my personal "war on hair." (Blow-dry styling and for the better part of a year, using a straightening iron every day.) So my stylist layered up the sides a bit more, but left the rest as is. I'm going to grow the back an inch or two, not much, enough so that I don't have to shave my hairline at the back of my neck. I just want something to frame my long, horsey face, and I'm tired of fighting with the wave. Make peace, not war, and all that.  :-) Ignore the middle-aged double chin, I get it from my dad's side of the family. As for colour: It had been 5 months since I had hi-lites, couldn't get it done last month. It was worth the wait, though. She went with just a blonde shade this time, a not-so-golden colour. Something in between my own mousey brown-turning-grey and the leftover bright gold and copper hi-lites. She sa...

My "hair happy" for the day!

Image
As some of you might remember, my stylist has been off work with her first baby since December 18th. (He was born by C-section on December 19th.) I had my last cut on Saturday the 17th, but haven't had hi-lites since October. Acck. For someone who goes a maximum of 6 weeks (preferably 5) in-between cuts, these two months have been long, hair-wise. No pun intended. And no, I haven't wanted to risk having someone else touch my hair. With or without good reason, it's my only vanity. Anyway, yesterday afternoon my stylist sent out a message to all her clients indicating she'd be starting back on Saturday March 3rd, listing her hours and prices. I replied right away that I'd be calling her ASAP this morning to book for a cut and colour, and absolutely would take a day off work in March if necessary. This morning, just before 9AM, I logged back in to my personal email to get her phone number, and she had replied, telling me she already had me booked for Saturday March 3...

It's Definitely "Easy Like Sunday" Here

Image
It's a lovely day, sunshine, reasonably warm out at 11C/52F. The boys are napping and I've done that, as well as some reading and some cooking. Other than a 4 km walk to and from the grocery store first thing, I've not been out today. Definitely an "easy like Sunday" day. Snapped yesterday, along Days Road. I had much-needed hi-lites and a trim yesterday, so I'm set for another few months, at least for colour. I'll have to find another stylist, though, for the winter, as mine is due with her first child on December 25th. I have an appointment on December 17th for a trim and while she kept saying she'll make it, I don't think she will. LOL. But I've had bad dreams about someone else touching my hair! Anyway. There wasn't much remarkable about the past week. I realize I've not posted since last Monday, but there's not been much to say. A cold (or possibly allergies) making me feel lousy overall, and definitely an un-comfy belly t...

And Another Week Rolls Around

Image
Another week, same old, no grand adventures other than a quick run up to Ottawa yesterday to Ikea. Thanks, Mike! (BTW, the lamp shade doesn't fit..shit, shit, shit. LOL. Too pretty to take back, guess I'll put a lamp base that does fit on my shopping list.) I took a half-day's vacation on Friday, went home and crashed for a couple of hours after lunch. So tired. I'm taking the other half-day today, as I have a dental appointment at noon and don't want to come back to the office, will run a couple of errands and go home after that. Had hi-lites and a hair cut on Saturday, always a boost, especially the colour. Other than the hair and the Ikea run, it's business as usual, just the day-to-day trivial things that make up our lives.  I'm definitely not in the mood to blog these days, could just be the lovely summer weather (who wants to spend more time at the computer than necessary for work?), could be other things. We'll see. I'll just wish everyon...

Hi-Lites

Image
Thank you all for the birthday wishes; you helped make my day even more special. And for the record, I came home with fresh flowers (tulips), wine, and dessert.  :-) Mom wanted to see a couple of pics of the hi-lites, so here they are. Plus it's nice to put a face (or part of a face) to the name, for those who don't know me. I didn't ask my stylist to take a pic because she had two clients waiting. But you know, it's awfully hard to get a snapshot of yourself, at least when you have short arms. And when you're not photogenic, as in my case. I do so hate being in front of the camera!

Saturday's Hi-Lites

Image
Hair hi-lites! Yay! And she really gave me a good cut, texturized it and cut it shorter than she did last time. Makes it much easier to live with--I don't have to do a thing. Which is just my kind of hair style. The other "hi-lite" for the day was getting to Michaels Crafts and finding the frames--and mats--that I needed. Last weekend they had only one mat, so I didn't bother, as I needed six. There's irony in the fact that I've spent a small fortune on cheap frames now. Would have been far less expensive to go out and buy dry-mounted artwork for the hallway, rather than put my amateur-ish little pics in frames. The bonus for the day is that after I left Michaels and was waiting for a bus, I saw one of the transit supervisor's drive up to put up a new bus stop sign (someone stole the old one). He's a really nice older man, close to my dad's age, used to drive my neighbourhood route a couple of years ago. Often had candies or chocolates, even gave m...

Fab-u-lous!

Image
Or maybe that should be "fab-u- less !" I got hi-lites and a cut today. Of all the pics I asked my stylist to take (a friend requested updated pics), this is my favourite and the most flattering. Though I must admit the "blur" tool in Photoshop Elements is like a little miracle device -- smooths out all the blotchy skin and middle-aged crows feet, sagging chin. Rather like foundation. Only waaaaay better. Just too bad I couldn't use a "blur" tool in reality, WITHOUT having facial surgery. And by the way, just to be fair, I emailed both the edited AND unedited snapshots.
