Another mish-mash Monday

Image
It's another mish-mash post for this dreary Monday. The weekend was busy, lots of running around, with only about half done what I need to take care of before Dad and Hélène arrive Sunday afternoon. Dad's birthday is October 3rd, and while he won't be here for it, we'll celebrate both Sunday and Monday. (Note to self: Make dinner reservations for Monday night.) I'm off for six business days come Friday. Yay! Back to the office on Tuesday October 13th, right after our Thanksgiving holiday Monday. (Can't believe it's almost Thanksgiving!) I managed to gather yet another giant garbage full of bedding, etc., for donation. You'd never know I just had the Salvation Army clean out my garage in August. I'm down to four mugs (yes, only four) and pretty soon I'll be down to two knives and two forks. LOL. Actually, I probably would get rid of almost all of the remaining kitchen stuff, if it weren't for occasional company. As it is, I now have...

It's a mixed bag today

It's definitely a mixed bag of things today: First, my cousin had her breast reconstruction (after a 3-year wait, post-double mastectomy) on the 14th. She opted to have the construction done by taking her own tissue to rebuild her breasts. Unfortunately there have been problems with blood flow, I believe, and she had surgery the next day, and again on Sunday. She's a tough cookie, but she told my mom last night that if she had known what this would be like, and the pain level, etc., she wouldn't have done it. (Presumably she meant she'd have opted for implants.)  Second, my co-worker lost one of her two elderly cats on Monday, Family Day. He had not been overtly sick, was always the robust one, but Sunday he stopped eating, had difficulties and on Monday, when they took him to the emerg vet, it turned out he was in acute renal failure, and I think had other health issues. So they had to let him go. Poor Rocky.  This is the pic she sent me, when she emailed to...

Monday Mishmash

Nothing profound today. We're in the path of some nasty winter weather: Going home this aft and getting in tomorrow AM could be "fun." On the up side, there are only 51 days till the Spring equinox. Yippee! *** Unless something unforeseen occurs, I'm taking Friday off this week so I can haul Nicki's furry butt in to the vet for his routine anal gland expression. Poor boy; don't tell him! *** I was chatting with a friend in Montreal yesterday, found out her younger brother (who's about my age and lives in Vancouver, BC) was attacked (unprovoked) in his apartment building corridor a week ago, by someone mentally unstable with a history of violence. Unfortunately, it looks like he'll lose the sight in his right eye. He's already had 6 hours of surgery on it and needs more, but the very best case scenario would be that he still can see fuzzy shapes with the eye. Worst case scenario is that he requires a prosthetic. From the sounds of th...
