Musings on a Small Life

Happy week, all.   Last night's clouds   Next Monday is a provincial holiday here, and I think in most, if not all, provinces and territories. Yay! I'm taking Tuesday the 5th off as a vacation day (have an AM appointment anyway), so am looking forward to four days away from the computer.   Below: Jake patiently waiting for breakfast this morning, as I was coming home from an early morning walk.     I can't claim there's anything new or exciting at my end. I've been feeling rather "meh" the past couple of weeks, suspect it's both heat/humidity and work-related.      We're in the middle of another excessive heat warning, with humidity making the temps feels like they're around 100F or more, so my time outside is pretty limited right now.   However, I am seeing lots of cottontails this summer, when I'm out in the early mornings!    Maybe the coyote population is down this year. 🤷 They're awfully cute, though, especially the litt...

Note for anyone new: Jake has a home with one of the neighbours, he comes for Fancy Feast and treats. 

I'm back to work today after the 10 days off. I don't know how those of you who take three (or more) weeks off at once manage to get back into the routine! I'm struggling as it is.    Anyway, it was a busy and productive break, with a get-away to visit friends for a couple of nights.   Click to enlarge the pics for best viewing.      I finally got the last upstairs door painted ("only" eight months after doing the others). I decluttered (always ongoing!) and had a donation pick-up. I trimmed shrubbery, reorganized all my upstairs closets, moved the three bookcases in my "storage" room to the opposite wall to make room for a new 12-cube Ikea Kallax unit, visited the aforementioned friends, had a couple of appointments, bused all over town for various errands, and still got reading time in during the evenings.    I also went to Art in the Park over the Canada Day weekend, unplanned. Two handsome mooches at my out-of-town friends' home. (My snaps, I'm heading home this afternoon.)  Mimi/MeMe Vinnie  Both have homes, but both are "overlooked", as my friend put it, in households with multiple animals. In Winners/HomeSense on the weekend. She's about eight years old, was a rescue when she was approximately two. She was a very good girl for her human mom. She posed perfectly! 

I got home a short time ago from five hours of errands in the baking heat, and found the welcoming committee on my doorstep. George was meowing his head off, as he wasn't around early this morning (we had severe thunderstorms roll through last night). So he was insisting that I hurry up with his Fancy Feast.  Jake was more nonchalant, too hot to expend the energy.  He was on my step this morning, before I left at 8 AM, and already had his Fancy Feast treat. Of course I gave him more. 😁 I sincerely hope their humans kept them inside last night, it was intense!  If you're in the middle of a heat wave, stay hydrated and as cool as possible! 

I met this 12-week old girl on my walk to the grocery store at lunchtime. She's a mix of so many breeds, she's truly a "mutt'. Name is Nymeria. I had to ask the woman twice, and I still couldn't remember, but she said the pup was named after a wolf character in "Game of Thrones." So I just Googled and got it. There's nothing like puppy (or kitten) kisses to perk up a day!  

A dear friend's elderly mum passed away in the early hours of this morning. She had been in the hospital for a short time, end of life care. I hope that if she and my own mom meet, in spirit/energy of course, that they share a glass of wine together (so to speak), and raise a toast to lives lived as best they could.   My thoughts and prayers are with my friend, her husband, and her family.💔🙏      But this reminds me that life is mostly about waiting, isn't it? The land of limbo between "milestone" events.    Waiting for a birth, waiting for a death, waiting for someone to call, for marriage, for divorce, for test results, for surgery, to move, to get a job, to be let go from one's job, to retire....everything in between those bookends of birth and death.   It makes me appreciate the days I have even more.
