Broke down and ordered hi-speed for home
I just broke down and ordered the high speed internet lite plus for the house from our local cable company. I can't stand the dial up anymore, I just can't. $35 per month, plus tax, so I guess that's reasonable. Not as fast as standard high speed, but it should be better--far better, I hope--than the old telenet I've been using for four years.
The "down" side is that I have to hang around at home all day on Sunday, waiting for the cable guy to show up. I asked for the modem and cable to be installed downstairs in the living room because that's where I use the laptop. Having to pay the set up fee ($30) plus first month's service ($40) means I can't rush out and buy a wireless router this month, though. Or shouldn't rush out and buy one, as it would have to be on the credit card.
I figure I can just plug the cable modem into the laptop for a few weeks, until I can get the router.
I hope the lite plus will be sufficient. It's not the download speed that is of most concern to me, it's the upload speed, and I know that's slower regardless of what kind of internet service you use. Still, it's got to be better than going at about 2 or 4 kb per second. LOL.
