What, they don't last forever?
So I'm gonna ask: How old are the condiments in your fridge?
'Cause mine have been around a long time -- it's not like I use them often or use much when I do. Mayo excepted; I rarely have any to begin with (not a huge fan of it) and of course toss it out when it's expired.
But ketchup, mustard, relish? Sauerkraut? Seafood cocktail sauce? Pickles?
Man, I had stuff in my fridge that had been around for more years than I care to count.
Apparently, however, most of these things have a life span measured in months, not years. Who knew? And how did I live before I had Steven and Chris to tell me these things?
So on the weekend, everything got pitched out. Because I wouldn't want my dad to open a jar and discover some terrible "experiment" gone awry.
And I bought new--small jars this time. Never mind that buying small sizes is not cost-effective. It's not cost-effective if you use only a tiny bit and then have to throw the rest out.
Of course, it might have been a good idea to actually scrub out the fridge while I was in the process of purging, but I admit it never occurred to me until now. Scrubbing the fridge is akin to cleaning the oven -- gets done, oh, maybe every five years or so.
But I'm not totally beyond redemption.
I did clean the bathroom ventilation fan last night, as best I could with my limited reach. I had to use a broom and that wasn't 100% effective. Or even 80% effective. But it's better than it was. And I did wash the ventilation cover.
And I even swept the basement! Okay, so I swept around all the storage containers and shelving, but still...!
What's left?
Umm, maybe I'd better wash off the living room ceiling fan. I don't think Dad knows I am hoping he'll put the new one up for me. Unless he's reading this blog, of course, in which case he'll know now. (And don't even think of cancelling your visit.)
And maybe I'd better wash out the fridge after all. And finish washing bedding, linens, etc. Clean out a couple of other closets. Sweep away the cob webs in the ceiling corners. But don't expect me to wash the baseboards. Heck, I never got around to painting them. And just forget about washing windows. I did those last year.
Other than that, I think I'm on track. :-)
