The One That Got Away
While Derry was busy watching for insects on another plant, this little guy or girl came and landed on one of the two giant hostas that flank my back step. I tried to get Derry's attention and point it out, but he was oblivious. He's a sweet boy, very good at getting insects (most of the time), but not the smartest kitty in the house (that would be Nicki).
So this is the one that got away! The pics aren't great, but it was breezy and it was hard to get a half-decent snapshot in macro mode, with the hosta leaves blowing around. Plus the evening sun was too glaring.
By the way, I called and spoke to Mom a few minutes ago. She had been down at the hospital this AM, will go again later. Harry still is very confused and this can't be attributed to the pain meds. He's been in cognitive decline for several years now (okay, more than "several") and we're wondering if this incident somehow has pushed him over a line. Too early to say, but the hospital wants another geriatric assessment done on him. He had one done two years ago when he fell (no broken bones then). The nurse in charge also wants to get the ball rolling (red tape) on in-home personal care and house care, should he recover sufficiently to go home. Mom is not very hopeful, truth be told. The only way he'll be able to return to his house (or new apartment) is by being at least somewhat mobile and having his faculties intact. Emphasis on the intact mental faculties. Mom's having a hard time because of course she's living in limbo. Harry really isn't aware of what's happening right now, though he still recognizes Mom and recognized his daughter and son-in-law yesterday.
So it'll be sometime yet before he even leaves the hospital for the rehab centre.

Oh thanks for the update on Harry. Maybe he'll take a bit longer to come out of the after effects of the operation given it was pretty major for an old timer??? Oh I'm hoping his mental abilities will heal over in time - I'm hoping that this is a temporary set back. I think it's cos he recognises your mum and his children that I'm hopeful for him!!
I shall add an extra candle in my heart just for him!
That comic strip is so true. If only the letter to life could be posted and replied to!! :-)
take care

It is terribly difficult, we understand with having elderly parents myself to see how age swiftly lays us low.
I shall keep Harry and your Mom in my prayers and hope that this is a short lived set back.
I do hope Harry improves mentally and of course physically too ...
