Another Christmas Over
It's all over now but the Boxing Day frenzy. And as I'm typing this on Christmas Day afternoon, I haven't yet decided if I'll partake of the consumer shopping frenzy. I don't as a rule, but hey, you never know.
A huge thank you to my mom, who spoiled me. Nothing extravagant, just a number of much-welcome presents:
Two pairs of soft and cosy flannel lounge pants that she made, slippers, two pairs of earrings, a zip-up fleece sweater (it's actually teal, not blue), a cute wooden sign that says "Martha Stewart doesn't live here and that's a good thing," two very soft cream cotton tops (tee and turtleneck) to go with the lounge pants (wish I could wear those to work!), a fundraising calendar in support of the feral cats of the Halifax Dockyard--run by one man, who has trapped them all and cares for them (no kittens have been born since 2007 and the colony is about 45 strong now), warm black gloves, thick and toasty navy socks, a fabric book cover (Mom bought it, didn't make it), and some hand and nail stuff.
I told Mom that if I ever lose my job, with the economic challenges the University is facing, and if I have to sell the house and move into her basement, I'm getting involved with his rescue organization. Eventually he wants to establish a cat sanctuary in the area. He's Nova Scotia's equivalent to the man who started Caboodle Ranch, I guess. Uh, not that I'm keen to lose my job and move back in with either of my parents. LOL.
Oh, even the cats bought a few things for their "mom."
Wasn't it clever of them to know I needed under-things and body cream, rechargeable batteries and slippers? (More slippers!) Hmm, but what's that? L'Oreal's Revitalift face cream? Are they trying to tell me I look old and haggard? Oh, but they thoughtfully bought some wool too. And some tea. How sweet.
What? I have to work to pay off the credit card bill? Gee, thanks, guys!
I actually did have a lovely, quiet Christmas, and it was fun to watch the cats with their presents on Christmas morning. The dinner I made on Christmas Eve was yummy and I drank almost an entire bottle of wine to go with it. And no hangover! Well, it was a very light wine, so didn't cause any problems.
I have to say, though, that it really didn't feel like Christmas. Maybe because the older I get, the faster time seems to pass, and I always feel that I'm lagging far behind, while the seasons whirl by me. Already it's the latter part of December; before we know it, it really will be Spring again. Everything becomes just a blur.
I hope everyone has had a wonderful holiday and that you all enjoy any time off you have. And if you're venturing out for the sales today....good luck. :-P

I did read about the guy of Caboodle Ranch (I think from Freya's blog) and he was truly amazing.
Oh I so wish I could start my own kitty sanctuary - but I did watch a harrowing documentary about these amazing ladies (one used to be a supermodel in the 60's) who have their own kitty sanctuaries and the amount of callous abuse cases they encountered had me crying and cursing the human race like no-one's business!! You really had to be so thick skinned or not be prone to violence and the urge to slap these stupid humans silly! LOL! Oh but the kitties were so worth it though!!!!
Anyway!! Boxing day sales. Erm.. i sort of started online - LOL!! Well I need good pairs of jeans and M&S who are the only shop in this universe to do my size and shape have some great deals on theirs so I was there clicking away!! The really bizarre thing is that the sale started at midnight and by the time I was online, most of the sale items were out of stock?!?!??! I'm like amazed that people were actually online from midnight buying stuff up!!!
Moving in with parents. Well I did have to once for about 4 years with my mum and the only advantage I could think of was that it did save me money but the emotional cost - yowza!!!! LOL! Unfortunately for my mum, I moved in with my 4 cats BUT!!!! She fell in love with them eventually - especially my ol girl!! by the time I escaped she even wanted to adopt her from me.
Gosh you know before the term broke up in my uni - we had about a million meetings all about the financial doom and gloom ahead. Then afterwards there was always a buffet spread courtesy of the director! LOL!!!
Oh I think I adore christmas so much I try and make the day last!!! Christmas and Birthdays are a must for me. But I do know about time flying past so quickly - I mean where did 2010 go?!?!?! Blimey!!!
L'Oreal revitalift cream??!? It's cos you're worth it!!!
Take care
x
p.s my word verification is "prowarm"! LOL!
xmas was relaxing and unpretentious here, just the way we want it. i'm not at all a xmas person, a lot of hullaballoo from the end of october and hey presto, it's over. my favurite holiday is easter, in celebration of spring and with no musts, stress or commercialism.
although the prospect of having to move in with parents when you're over the age of 20 - so. not. appealing. duh.
but i have decided 2011 will be a good good year for me, i'm definitely willing to share, so be it!!
