A Blast From the Past...In More Ways Than One
I popped into a Tim Horton's (poor man's coffee/doughnut shop) on the way to work this morning, to get breakfast to go. The customer behind me, who also was getting breakfast, looked rather like my first (and only other boss) in this city, but I wasn't quite sure. I kept glancing at him out of the corner of my eye, still not certain. It had been almost a decade, after all. But as I was collecting my food and turning to leave, I said, "You look like D. L.," at which point he actually noticed me and said, "Kim!" I expressed surprise he remembered my name, even more surprise that he recalled my last name immediately.
He looks the same, really, hair a bit thinner, but essentially the same. I'm not sure he would think the same of me, though he did comment that my hair colour was different. (I wasn't highlighting it 14 years ago.) I laughed and said I had to cover the white strands now.
So we chatted for just a few minutes and I went on my way, rather bemused. The last time I ran into him was about 9.5 or so years ago, just after my ex had moved out of the house. I remember I was in our dental office (same dentist, it was he who had recommended her when we first moved here), a couple of years after I had left his company.
That was my "big" blast from the past. He was a very dry and witty man, as I recall, extremely intelligent, but definitely not a people-person, not an empathetic boss.
Anyway, my second blast from the past really isn't much of one -- just that I decorated my Christmas tree this afternoon/evening and had fun looking at some of the old (old, not valuable) ornaments. Of course, I get to do this every year that I go to the bother of putting up a tree!
I have to say that if I didn't have cats, I would have lovely glass baubles on the tree, more contemporary decorations. But I don't mind the old-fashioned country look, even though I've done the same thing for years. Oh, but I did find the bag of dried apple and orange slices I had made years ago. I'm not going to ask why they don't seem to decay. LOL. I'm just glad they haven't! And yes, I actually did dry them all myself, so easy to do.
So here's the finished tree, and I guess it will do for this year. The string anchoring it to the ceiling via the plant hook is a nice touch, don't you think? :-P

These little plastic ornaments came from Eaton's, when Eaton's still existed, and must be about 20 or 25 years old. I'm sure I had them before I moved in with the ex, all those years ago.

That is weird running into your first boss - you are very good - I'd have hot footed it asap sans coffee and half a doughnut maybe if I ever stumble across any of my ex-bosses! Yikes!! But it's great that he remembered your name!! He gets an extra super duper star from moi!!!
Have a great Friday! Take care
