6:45 PM on Friday: Just Spoke To The Vet

I thought I'd post here, I don't need to post umpteen updates on Fuzzy Tales. (And apologies to a couple of people, I've already emailed them with this update, I copied it over to the blog for posting.)

I just talked to the vet...Annie's trying to pass this poop but it's not moving. The vet has sent the x-rays to the Ottawa internist and a radiologist, She really wants to get their opinion as to whether the colon has a stricture. She said that if does, the surgery is very difficult and involved.

She doesn't feel Annie is suffering at this time -- said she's taking the enemas better than a lot of cats, but that they'll ease up on them over the weekend, three tomorrow and two or three on Sunday.

Monday will be the attempt at manual extraction (unless there's a poop miracle), but because Annie's pelvis and colon are so narrow, she's very concerned about the procedure.

And if that doesn't work...well, I'll have to make a decision then. One I'm not ready to make and don't want to make. If that kind of colon surgery were simple, I'd probably go ahead, but a complicated surgery on a senior kitty...I just don't know. I love Annie so much, don't want her to suffer, don't want to put her through ordeal after ordeal. Some people would, and that's fair, but finances aside, I'm a big believer in quality of life. Poor Annie already has gone through so much, I honestly don't know I'd want to put her through more, especially not knowing what her quality of life would be afterward, even though I absolutely don't want to let her go. The vet assured me that she would tell me if she thought Annie was suffering (now) and that she's not, so I guess it's one day, one moment at a time.

I have no idea how I'm going to get through the weekend. Valerian and Gravol, I guess -- but just not together, I promise!

My heart is just breaking for my baby girl. The vet said she was straining mightily after the last enema, but the mass simply is not moving.

I know this is all heartbreaking and overwhelming. I cannot even fathom what it is you are going through, but I pray that things go better over the weekend. Annie will be in our thoughts and prayers, as you will be as well.

Oh Kim!! Please take care. I really don't know what else to suggest - except to trust the vets as well as yourself as well as Annie!! But please don't give up, please. See what you have in your favour, Annie's only 9. She's robust, she's strong. She may surprise us all even if she has to go through surgery. There's hope, dear Kim, always. Hang on tight!

Hugs and purrs x
Kim, we have been praying so hard for Annie. You know her best and we know you will do what is best for her. Our hearts are breaking for you, and Annie, as you try to deal with this.

Still thinking of you and poor Annie. You must be utterly climbing the walls. we so so hope that there's a shift in the evil poop over the weekend. Fingers and paws are crossed here. Try to breathe deeply and keep calm, if it's at all possible. Thinking of you with loads of love. Karin

Kim - I know you don't want Annie to suffer but don't do anything too hastily. She is really at a good time in her life at 9 years old and has always been well looked after by you so she has some great inner strengths mentally and physically.
I know this weekend will be so long for you but it might give her the breathing space to gather her strength for one big try to expel this pooh.
