"Barking up the wrong tree"
Just a further note re: Annie, so don't read if kitty poop grosses you out!
Dr. Buchanan had felt hard stool in Annie's colon on Monday, so when we spoke yesterday evening she asked if Annie had passed anything. I said only a very tiny hard bit on Monday, nothing subsequent to that. So she felt we had been "barking up the wrong tree" with the Clavamox idea and that Annie likely was constipated. She hoped it was that. I didn't want to post an update last night or this morning, because the vet wasn't certain and I wouldn't be able to talk with her till this afternoon.
I would have thought that nothing would get through if that were the case, but she said anything that did make it around the blockage would come out as diarrhea. This would explain Annie's running to the litter box every few minutes and straining, but not having anything come out, then her two further bouts of diarrhea on Wednesday AM.
She must have been (and still be) feeling so uncomfortable.
So when Dr. Buchanan and I spoke this afternoon, she felt it definitely was constipation we were dealing with and that the Clavamox was a "red herring."
I'm worried she won't pass this on her own, of course. Very worried. Surgery always is a risk, especially for senior kitties with other health issues. And she's been through so much now. I just want her home, home, home, preferably tomorrow. I won't get my hopes up, though. The house is just not the same, I'm not the same.
Nicki, however, is in his glory with one less cat sharing the human. Derry is unsettled, not quite himself.
Let me tell you, my stress level was so high today that I felt like I could be a candidate for a heart attack or a stroke before this is all over. I was taking Passion Flower essence like crazy, without much success. Gravol tonight (brand name of an anti-nausea med that makes you sleepy).
I really don't think I could have kept it together (mostly...sort of) without everyone's support, so please know I thank you from the bottom of my heart. And I do humbly ask for continued purrs/prayers/healing energy for beloved Annie Bananie.
Thank you.

Lucy, Sam and I will continue to send Annie continuous good vibes and prayers, never fear.

I was wondering if they were giving her anything to sort of help soften it up and then administering the enema? I can understand why she was straining too. WE all worry ourselves crazy over our furries. WE do. But little Miss Annie is in good hands and they know what to do to get her back home. I know it doesn't help ease a aching heart, but like you I am hopeful that she will be back tomorrow and raring for some really good noms!
We will purr for that!
She must be missing you as much too. Let's all hope that she returns home soon.
Take care Kim!!! Hang on in there - you;ve done amazingly well! I really mean that!! You knew something was wrong with Annie and you persisted and your fought her corner all the way!!! And you didn't give up and neither has Annie!! Yay!
Hugs too to wonderful Nickie and Derry! take care

I know what you mean about the loving support from the mommy's and daddy's on the CB. It meant the world to me, and the Admiral is by no means out of the woods. We take it day by day and Annie..the Admiral purrs super hard for you.

I'm thinking of you and Annie and sending prayers your way.
It's so hard when they can't tell you what's wrong. My tigs is 19 so I am always watching him like a hawk. He has constipation issues and we keep track of it. We have a sheet that we photocopy that lists his meds, if he had a stool movement, and if he threw up. Helps to keep track of his issues especially when he has several!
He now is on two medicines for the constipation. Cisapride which is compounded into a pill is for helping it move through his system.
Lactulose is a liquid for helping to soften the stool. He takes them 3x a day and then we back off on the lactulose if he gets diarrhea.
If Annie is having hard stools all the time, maybe she might need a stool softner. I would definately ask the vet about it.
There is also that laxotone that you buy at petstores that they can lick off your finger.
Hoping that Annie starts feeling better soon.
Sending warm hugs for Annie to get well!

I am so happy there's a diagnosis. Now Annie can work on getting better with the help of the vet.
Speaking as someone who has irritable bowel, I can imagine how the poor kid must be feeling. I know several "Moms" that feed canned pumpkin to their kitties and apparently they love it! Lord knows Sweet Pea would kill for yams...
Please take care of yourself. You can't get sick from stress, too!
We're all praying and purring for you and Annie.
