I've Maxed Out My Quota of Worry For the Day

Let's see...Annie nibbled this morning, I have no idea if she ate during the day of course, she had a bit of kibble when I got home, and maybe--maybe--some "juice" from one of her canned foods, and that's it. She's holed up under the futon in the guest room now.

You know, there's only so much worry I can carry in a day. Seriously.

There's nothing in her blood work to indicate she's at death's door, though she's making too-small clumps and so still must be uncomfortable with the bladder infection. Same deal today as both previous days: one basically normal-sized clump during the day, then tiny clumps when I'm home.

I've had a headache all day, I'm mentally and emotionally exhausted and I've just had enough. Bedtime--and some Valerian--can't come soon enough.

Anyway.

A few more shots from last week's walk downtown.

And now I'm going back to my knitting.  :-)

P.S. As soon as I hit "publish," down the stairs came Her Highness and gee, she's eating. I swear, she knows the wringer she's putting me through and is doing it deliberately.

I know your worry won't ease until you talk with the Vet, or see Annie start drinking like a duck. I completely understand, and I try my best myself to no avail sometimes too. But I do send you soothing peaceful thoughts and hope that you do receive really good news on Annie soon!

Oh Kim!! Of course you're consumed with worry!! We are talking about the amazing Annie here afterall!!

I think if you hang on to the news that her bloods are ok and that she's just maybe taking her own time letting the meds work on her bladder infection maybe you could rest a little easy.

And it's great too that she's eaten just as you're about to start knitting!!

I love your pics - it's so grey and bare - so winter!! Yay for the duck!!

Take care

Hi Kim,

I completely understand about your constant worrying about Annie. I am the same way my my 18-yr old Tigger.

I would try Cyproheptadine, it's an appetite stimulant. That's what we did when Tigger's eating leveled off, which I think was due to Methimazole. In fact, it made him completely stop eating so we are giving him 1.25/ 1x a day. Although it's not ideal, his eating has definately improved and he is not on appetite stimulant now.

Also, I've started to heat wet food in the microwave for a few seconds. Something about making it smellier? Seems to work. It's good at making the Wellness brand a little more smushy.

Another thing. Is she nauseous? Licking her lips? Tigger seemed to have days when he was taking methimazole twice a day. We got Zofran, which seemed to make a difference. Hope this helps.

I do know that both my sister and my son have commented about poor appetite in their cats when they had bladder infections. I think any kind of infection affects the appetite. And the oral antibiotic meds seem to make them feel sickish as well, so if she is switched over to them, it may still be a while before she has an appetite.
