No Sign of "Toby"....But We're Rolling!

I haven't seen a even a whisker of the stray cat today. Not unexpected, I just hope he stayed safe last night. Niko's happy to have my front step to himself.  :-)

Niko yesterday, enjoying the fresh catnip. (Toby was in the carrier and in the garage at that point.)

Today was busy, productive and also frustrating. (Thanks for all your time and help today, Mike! Could not have done it all without your assistance.)

I got 4 gallons of Behr's primer + paint in one, my first time using it, though I've used Behr before, many times. That was Home Depot. Got some trim from Rona, but couldn't get a transition piece to match my existing one (the piece that finishes off the floors when you pass from one room to another). I also couldn't find stair nosing that wasn't aluminum. Rona had one piece of oak (?) stair nosing left, but I needed more. Home Depot could special order the laminate stair nosing, delivery in 2 or 3 weeks. Lowe's had lots of laminate and hardwood finishing pieces, but nothing in the colour I need. Who would have thought it would be so difficult to find? I might have to end up getting oak stair nosings and painting them out, because I'll never get a match for the colour of the laminate flooring I have up in the hall. Rats, rats, rats. Though "rats" is not what I was saying today. No, no, I was cursing a blue streak.

So Mike dropped me off, with all my paint and the trim I did get, around 1:30PM or so. By then I had a splitting headache, but was anxious to see what the paint would like in the upper hallway. So I popped an Ibuprofen, grabbed a bite to eat, and then went to work with the paint brush and roller.

The colour I chose was "polished pearl," not yellow-ish, not beige. Sort of in-between. I like the soft buttery yellow shade I've had on the walls for the past handful or so of years, but wanted to go just a bit more neutral (better with all the green I have in the bedrooms). And at first I was concerned that this "polished pearl" would be too beige--I hate beige. But the first coat has dried to a nice shade, I think, so I'm pleased. I'll do the second coat tomorrow.

Sorry for the ceiling light reflection...And the new shade looked very white, going on over the older yellow, but it does look fine now.

I hope the paint will look okay downstairs too, because "polished pearl" is the shade I'll be using for the entire main level as well, including the small, open kitchen area. (Currently everything is the buttery/creamy yellow.) I think a more neutral shade will allow me better flexibility in colour of curtains, area rug, pillows, etc.

Mr. Handyman is coming by tomorrow after 10AM to put the first coat of paint on the stairwell and finish off the closet. I might run up to Rona before he arrives, or perhaps I'll just do the second coat of paint so I'm not up there doing my painting while he's doing his. Not enough room for both of us to maneuver around!

And yes, I did buy another closet organizer, just for that vertical rod the handyman had cut too short earlier this week. I told him that he was welcome to go to Rona and try to wheedle a vertical support rod out of them (they'd have to open a box and give him one), but that I couldn't lie to Rona to try to do it myself. I'm just not made that way, more's the pity. LOL. But he said no, it was fine, so I'm content to knock a couple of hours off his current labour tally--that will almost fully cover the cost of the second organizer. (He said he'd cover the full amount, including taxes, but that's not necessary, IMO.)

So now I think a good scrubbing is in order--I was painting in bare feet and of course have paint all over the soles of my feet. And all over my arms. I'm a very messy painter, I admit. I get it all over me just by opening a can. LOL.
