Well, That Was a Bit Awkward
It was my first day back at the office today. Good thing it's a short week (Canada Day is Friday the 1st).
So, along about 2PM the regional rep for our current copier lease agreement showed up. I hadn't seen him in a few years, not since we moved into our current building. Recently our organization has switched preferred office equipment dealers. And recently I also made the switch (with my boss's approval, of course) to the new supplier, and to a new multi-function device (recommended by our procurement services department).
It wasn't any big deal to break the news to the soon-to-be former rep. He's a nice man, 60-something but looks at least a decade younger, very fit, will talk your ear off. What was awkward was the young (early 20s) rep for the new supplier showing up in front of cubicle to let me know our new machine will be delivered tomorrow. The two had never met and I found it a tad awkward to be caught in-between. I told them, jokingly of course, that if it was going to dissolve into fisticuffs to take it outside my cubicle...better yet, to take it out onto the sidewalk. :-D
Interestingly, the older/former rep worked for a long time for the young, newer rep's company. I told the kid (well, I am old enough to be his mother) that in five years' time he'd be in the same position, if our org switches preferred suppliers again.
Funny how no one teaches you to deal with those little awkward moments life brings. My preferred method is humour. And chocolate.
I hope no one else has had an awkward-moment day. LOL.
I'm completely obsessed with these daisy-like flowers that are growing in a few pots in my garden. I don't remember what they are, presume they're related to daisies?

How many hours of all kinds of training do we sit through at work, that we never use or was all common sense to start with. But what you need, like how to deal with a situation like that, they never address :-/
You reminded me of a time, years ago when we were replacing the computer system that had been used at work for years with a completely new one. I was so uncomfortable with the service guys I'd known for years there removing the old stuff, while the new guys were also there installing the new stuff. I'm sure they were all fine, had been there before, it was all business. But I was miserable.
LOL!!! Awkward situations! LOL!! You know what I tend to do?? We always give potential job candidates a tour around where I work after their interviews and I always, always always do the tours so that I and the potential candidate always bump into the new interviewee as they are being led to the interview room. I don't do it deliberately - I just give very long-winded bad tours! Take care

It is funny that no matter how "prepared" you think you are, something pops up and you have to fake it. Good job!!!
Humor is an excellent way of dealing with awkward moments!
And chocolate is good for any moment.

I had an awkward moment when I realized I emailed the wrong address with what I thought was a funny nickname for the Rubbermade shelf we have between the registers. Needless to say I went to work to tell the friend in person to delete said reply before someone might read that and dislike that I called it the 'tower of doom'
>.< I almost push it over the bakery case every other day...it is doomy.
