Well, that was...inconclusive

So, after waiting 20 minutes because they didn't realize I was there (after checking in with the receptionist and sitting in a prominent spot in the waiting room), I learned that the ultrasound showed a 1.5 cm cyst on the right ovary, which could disappear on its own and certainly isn't giving me discomfort. (Hey, maybe the lab reversed the images and it really is the left side--ha.)

I also was told I have gall stones...but I knew that already. It's entirely possible the gall bladder is on my left, instead of right, side, which could account for some of the upper abdominal pain. I knew I had gall stones 2.5 years ago. Or is it 3.5? In any case, I couldn't make a snap decision about whether to opt for elective surgery to have the gall bladder removed. Wait time would be about a year and a half anyway, but I'll decide after the follow-up ultrasound in six weeks. I asked if, at that time, the radiologist could give a bit more info about the size of stones--whether anything looks like it might block the bile duct sooner than later and cause an emergency situation.

So that was it for the ultrasound results. I'm so looking forward to drinking 24 ounces of water again (plus fasting 6 hours), and holding it for two hours.

Next up will be a CT colon scan to check for any problems there. Nothing shoved up orifices for that, thank goodness, but you do have to drink stuff to uh, clean you out, and avoid solid food. So I won't be going to work the day I have that. LOL.

Also up will be a urea breath test (HP test, I think it's called), to check for any bacteria in the stomach (think stomach ulcer).

Fun, fun, fun. Never let it be said that middle age is for the faint of heart.  :-P

Boy, I was so sure the cause of the discomfort would be a cyst on the left ovary...surgery...a couple of weeks off work...But nope, at least not yet. LOL.

I hope everyone's day is a bit less medical than mine.  :-)

Cysts? Gall stones? Ulcers? Oh my!

Let's hope all these tests find the cause of your pain!! And I hope the cause is something most treatable too.

I'm glad there's nothing serious they found. Take good care, Kea!

I have/had a walnut sized cyst on the right ovary that they discovered when I had the split you wide open because your zillion gall stones traveled thru the Common Duct and lodged!!! But they said if the cyst wasn't bothering me then they wouldn't bother it.
We women have all kinds of stuffs in our lady gardens.

Am glad that it was a condition that just needs to be watched. A word to the wise in case you've never had the colonoscopy before, you'll need to take the day before off from work. There is no way you will be able to do the cleanse at work, and you'll also have to take the day off from work the day of the procedure. There is no pain or anything to it, the worst thing is drinking all of the junk.
*sigh*
Fun fun fun.

I am very happy that you had somewhat good news.

Gallstones are nothing to mess with. Are you on a special diet for them? I have chronic kidney stones and have to drink over 100 ounces of water EVERY DAY. I also have to avoid certain foods which I would think you would have to do with gallstones as well.

Please take care!

I've only just caught up with what's happening to you after getting back from holiday, what a hassle it all is, I'm so sorry. Very glad it's nothing really serious, but I just get a sense of how fed up I'd be with the time-wasting nature of the tests (well, not wasting exactly, since I'm sure they're important tests, but let's face it all of us would prefer to be stroking cats or shopping, or even cleaning than having procedures). Time also goes slower as soon as you enter a medical building of any kind. I do hope it's all as straightforward as possible for you - the thought of a bladder that full of water is making me squirm even now, lots of love xxxx

How come we reach a certain age and all of a sudden our body starts falling apart? I must have missed the 'expiration' date someplace... gaaak!!!

I wish you luck that all the rest of your test are good results!

The gall bladder is on the right side. Usually with gall bladder problems the pain is worse after eating a fatty meal. Also, the pain radiates to the middle of the back. I had pain on the left and had my gall bladder removed (10 years ago). Guess what...I still have pain on the left. It comes and goes and actually is still a mystery. Does your pain feel associated with digestion? Mine is directly related to stress and digestion...I think something just shuts down, tightens up in my intestines. Going through all of those tests is certainly not fun. But it is good to rule out any more serious stuff. I hope all goes well for you and whatever it is, it just disappears!

Scary stuff as we are afraid of doctors and vets! We hope your next tests show you're all OK and good to go.

this sounds very stressful, most of us try as best we can to stay aways from doctors i think... i hope any additional tests will tell more and that your issues will be easily fixed of course. sending good thoughts and vibes!!
