That was surreal

I just ran into someone who used to be a very good friend, though we drifted apart a few years ago and haven't spoken since. No falling out, just different interests and values. She was ahead of me in Starbucks, actually. I saw her going in to the café and thought, "Nah, that can't be so-and-so" and dismissed it from my mind. Didn't recognize her from the back or pay any attention to her at all until we were waiting for our drinks and she turned and saw me, spoke to me. If she hadn't said anything I truly don't think I'd have noticed.

Very surreal, to make idle chitchat with someone who was so close at one time, but who essentially is a stranger now. Her hair is significantly shorter, coloured differently, but otherwise she looks the same, looks terrific, actually. She took a new, high management position with her department back in summer; I saw that posted on our HR site.

"Funny" how these things happen when you feel like crap. (I have a headache today and my dark circles have dark circles.)

I almost wish I could have said something grand had happened in my life in the intervening few years, but no, the only "event" was Annie's loss. But things seem to be much the same for her too, though of course her children are older now, 10 and 6. I can remember when she was pregnant with the elder, her son. Hard to believe a decade has come and gone.

All I can say is that I hope no one else from my past comes crawling out of the woodwork, so to speak. LOL.

An update on Anne, Lynn's mom: Lynn spent last night at my place and we went to a downtown pub for dinner, joined by her ex-hubby, who lives here in town. Anne is doing pretty well and probably can be released today. If not today, then tomorrow. Not sure what the prognosis will be over the long term, but I think with a diet and lifestyle change plus proper medication her odds are good. She already said no to the risky surgery to unblock a clogged artery. And there's nothing at all wrong with her mental faculties, so that's good.

This was a card I received a year or two ago and I'm pretty sure I posted it last year, but it's cute enough to share again. Besides, I don't have any new snapshots!

Isn't life strange how it throws you weird curves like that?

At least you and this long lost friend were able to have a civil conversation - kind of like you've both moved on and no hard feelings. That's really nice closure! But what a surprise for you! No more please - not until the circles under your eyes disappear! :-) But seriously!! One of my nice co-workers child is already 12 years old and I remember her from when she was 2! It's SCARY how time whizzes past!

It's lovely to hear Anne is doing so well! I hope her quality of life will be such that she enjoys every moment of it. Healing hugs to her and her family!

Aww that card is tooooo cute! Take care

Very cute photo !!!

I've had that happen. Run into someone from my college days and they notice me. I don't have anything to really brag about but they always seem to. I've lived a simply life and that's fine with me.

Glad your friends Mom is semi ok. Always a hard thing. The body giving out on us. Nothing much you can do about it but keep on going.

Pet those purrballs for me,

JC ^,,^

I love that card - so cute!
I'm glad your friend's Mom is doing better, it's hard when the older generation starts having problems... it's started happening in my family too...
I never know what to say, when I run into someone I've not seen for ages. Like JC, I live a simple life - which I love - but is definitely not note-worthy or fashionable...

Glad Anne's Mom is doing better. I don't seem to live anywhere long enough to run into people from my past - maybe that is a good thing!

most of the time I love the "chance meeting" of an old friend. I prefer to think that the meeting isn't really chance at all but is a message. If we see it.

I love that card. I too have had a few chance meetings with old passed-on-by friends who are not a part of my life or thought processes. IF I see them first, I may or may not say anything. Oh I will if they speak to me..but as for me initiating the act..not so much. Whats done is done..to me.
