Monday Miscellany (and yes, a new TV)

So far the first two days of January 2012 feel just like December 2011. Huh, what a surprise.

I wonder why we make a big to-do about January 1st. Even when I was with my ex, we never made a big deal out of the "new year," would just go to a house party or stay home. Certainly most of us don't keep the resolutions we make, which is why I don't make any. I think if I were inclined to do that, I'd want to do it on my birth-day, the true beginning of a new year of my life.

Anyway, I'm back to work tomorrow and content to get back into a routine. I've been off since the afternoon of December 22nd, and I made it through to New Year's day without getting bored or having my mood plummet. Usually I don't make it this long, puttering around on my own and not having much human interaction. But this holiday has been very enjoyable, lots of reading, some shopping (mostly necessities), and of course the knitting, knitting, knitting. I'm only on kitty blanket #4 of 52, if I actually manage to knit one a week. (This is my year-long shelter donation project--if I don't lose interest.) They're only two feet square, for the limited space in the cages, so they knit up quickly, but there's only so much I can do before my hand gets too stiff and sore. And now that work is resuming, I won't have the time during the day to do this. So I'll see how far I get.

I did go to the dollar store this morning, though, for January's shelter donation purchases:

As for the new TV, I got it on Saturday at FutureShop, just a 32" Sony Bravia, only 720, not the 1080 resolution. But I have only standard, basic cable service right now and have no plans to upgrade to high-def in the near future, so a higher end TV would be wasted. It would have been more expensive too, and my dad is being very generous in paying for it, I wouldn't have wanted him to pay more. The Sony was on sale for $320, so $400 with the environmental disposal fee of $25 and taxes. A little bonus for me is that I can take my old analogue TV to the store, along with other old electronics I have hanging around, and they'll send them off for proper disposal/recycling. That's what the $25 fee is for. I'll get that done within a few weeks, thanks to the same friend who took me TV shopping in the first place. Always great to have use of a vehicle once in a while, with a "chauffeur."

Yep, that's Disney's Beauty and the Beast, I love that movie.

The boys have spent much of the holiday snoozing, of course. Neither seems inclined to go outside for more than a few minutes, and sometimes it's hard work to try to entertain them. I think we're all eagerly awaiting Spring's return.

And that's life here, in sunny but cold southeastern Ontario. Time to make a cup of hot cocoa and to get back to the knitting.
