I wish I had taken the day off!

I wish, now, that I had taken yesterday (my birthday) off, as I normally do. But the weather was crappy, cold and rainy, and I didn't want to waste a vacation day.

So in the end I really don't feel I had a birthday, in spite of all the wonderful calls received both at work and at home. (Including a call from my uncle in Bergamo, Italy.) In fact, I had arrived home with ribs and salad and a nice dessert, but got sidetracked by a girlfriend's call....for 1 hour, 40 minutes and 51 seconds. So supper cooled in the oven and it was after 7:30PM before I could scarf anything down.

I'll take a day off work when it's sunny and warm (is it ever going to be warm?) and treat myself then, I hope sometime this month. I'm also getting together with a friend and his partner this weekend--I haven't met the new partner yet, so am looking forward to it.

I did however, get a cosy sweater from Mom, as well as these two cute tote bags. I actually had asked some months ago for another tote bag, something pretty, and since Mom loves to sew, she made two for my birthday. Both have handles, of course, and also velcro pockets.

There's a little zippered pouch with the pastel floral one.
And I had treated myself to a couple of pieces of costume jewelry.
Not the most exciting birthday I've ever had, but that's okay. Maybe I'll make a note to myself to take the day off next year regardless of the forecast -- I find the day feels more special that way.

yeah - sometimes it isn't all it is cracked up to be. I went to dinner with friends for mine (my parents live in town but were on vacation). Got home and not a single piece of mail....I should be over it and yet it was a little sad. :)

LOVE those totes...your mom is very talented!!

I usually have a great birthday when I take the day off, so it serves me right for not doing so this year.

Well, I'll treat myself on the weekend to something like flowers -- some little thing that's special, anyway. :-)

Happy Belated Birthday To YOU !!!

I'm sort of lucky that my B Day is in August so usually it's a sort of ok day weather wise.

I think your B Day gifts are very cool.

Do something fun on a warm weekend to celebrate you !!!

Happy Birthday! Yes, a birthday is definitely a day to take off from work, no matter what the weather is! I almost always take the entire week off, since it's in May when all the garden planting needs doing anyway, and the garden is my favorite place to be!

Happy birthday! I have been debating about taking the week of my birthday off as I have done in the past. After reading your experience, I mist just do it now for sure.

A belated happy birthday!
I find as I age the less that day matters. Less that things matter. Not saying I don't like gifts ... but it just doesn't have the same meaning it once did.
Glad you did treat yourself and those totes from your Mom were wonderful!

Happy Belated Birthday!

Sometimes I call it off for another day too.

I remember I worked on my birthday, just because it was during the week and no one was around to do anything fun with. :P This year the neighbors, Bill, and I will do a get-together at a local brewery so we can have some tasty beer (at least the neighbors and I!)
Happy Birthday, Kim. Maybe you can pretend it will be Saturday. Your birthday made me think that I wished I had a way of remembering friends' birthdays. So, I made a document by months with all family members and the friends I could remember the BD of, with a list of people to check on. I love it, so thank you for the nudge. You're on it, too.

Since I don't work outside the home, I'm always off on my birthday. It's the fourth of July, so lots of people are off work, so I stay home as much as possible. Last year, I stayed in my jammies all day, sewed, read, watched TV with cats all over me, and had a chocolate martini. John made dinner - and cleaned up. A great day for sure.

KIM! I had no idea it was your birthday!
Happy, happy, happy Birthday!!!

I began to take my birthday as annual leave - after the day I worked from 5am to 7pm... and was offered a mouldy pie (truly!!!) for lunch!

An indulgent day off is the only way to celebrate (even if the only indulgent thing you do is cuddling the cats until the sun rises)

Happy Birthday Kim!!

Mine are never too exciting, but I decided ten years ago to never ever work, as those days usually suck. So instead I sleep in, take myself out for lunch, maybe a movie, and go out for dinner with friends. So much nicer than working.

Glad you got some nice treats though.

Happy Belated Birthday! Oh yes, I always like to take my birthday off too. When I turn 50, I'm going to take the whole week off. haha!

Such sweet things you received ~ I like the colors of your tote bags.

Let us hope that the warm weather comes and stays soon!
