Zylkene is ordered, got some calming treats

When I got home Friday there was a message from my current vet clinic telling me they'd ordered the Zylkene and that it should be in on Monday. Great! I have no idea how much it costs; I didn't ask, either. Too afraid!

And in the mail was a package of Pet Naturals calming treats from a blogger; I'm waiting for the Vetri-Science ones to come from the States.

I gave Derry and Nicki one treat each Friday afternoon, not sure I noticed any difference in either of them. They were content to enjoy the sunshine and warmth in the back garden, had a good evening.

I gave Derry one this AM and then gave them both one this afternoon around 4:30PM. Both are sleeping right now, but it's a cold, rainy, miserable day, so they'd be sleeping anyway. The treats don't cause drowsiness. Supposedly you give just one a day, though can double or triple without any problem in times of severe stress.

I'm a little fuzzy on how I'll know if any one of these things works for Derry. I mean, he might or might not have a repeat bout of cystitis, and that could be right away or could be months down the road, as it was this time. Perhaps the only way I'll be able to tell is if I find him less jumpy.

Apparently Zylkene is available for humans; someone sent me the Amazon.com link. Not available on Amazon.ca, though, otherwise I'd try them for myself! Listening to those kids scream their freakin' fool heads off in endless tantrums this afternoon...Well, I could use something. Alas, no rye in the house. Not even wine. My poor cats...Once school is out their days will be hellish, I imagine. At least I can escape to my office cubicle, where it's quiet. Nicki and Derry don't have anywhere quiet to go.

I hope everyone's having a "sunny" and cheerful weekend, a daffodil-like weekend.  :-)

Universal Blessings, Light and Mercy to All Beings.

would having a radio on in your house help the boys? we live in a condo too but at least we can't hear our neighbors like that....

our newest addition has taken to singing - loudly - at 3am. Friday morning it went on for 3 hours.... Saturday morning mom fed her again and gave her 2 of those treats. don't know if they worked, but she shut up so we hope maybe.... :)

I tried those calming treats because of Ping. He is high strung. They didn't help him, but I hope you have better results.

I'm also suggesting leaving a radio on during the day when you're gone. I'd think an easy listening station will help keep them calmer during the day. I wouldn't worry about the radio bothering the neighbors.

how about you take Derry and Nicki to work with you! That could be fun! :)

I've just read about SkyTV having a channel just for dogs - so dogs just sit and watch while their humans are at work. They should invent something like that for kitties! Awww good luck with the calming treats and foods for Derry and Nicki. I hope you get some Rye later too! Oh the sun is out and people are running the marathon! Yay! Take care
