Where was I when career motivation and business savvy were being doled out?
After so many years in this job, part of which involves the collection of teaching and salary data for a particular faculty group, you'd think nothing would boggle my mind.
But today's business appointment (granted, the business school is another creature entirely, not like regular faculty, and they have to pay what the market demands), wherein one person* is making almost $50,000 per half-credit course, plus is being given $20,000 per year for additional expenses, begs the question:
Where was I when career motivation and business savvy were being given out?
You know where I was?
I was in the freakin' Disney line, humming "la la la de dah" and looking at the flowers and cute animals. That's where I was.

I think it's too late to pick another line up now.
Have a happy day in la-la land, everyone. :-P
*Note: This is the exception, even in the business school. Most stipends per half-credit business course pay half this amount or even less. This person must be a demi-god.

Unfortunately the athletic demi-gods do even better moneywise. Here the the basketball coach gets paid more than the University president. Doesn't seem right somehow.
I've never been able to find my passion... and I suspect it is far too late now... bummer :-)
I was watching this programme: The History of Our Street - and one of the interviewees was this woman who was a bit down on her luck, a bit stuck in a rut and she was saying how although she was the brightest in the family, it was her other siblings who are now successes and the only reason she could think of as to why this was - was because she was artistically inclined and did all the arts subjects and plumped for jobs more suited to her creative temperament (ones that allowed her plenty of time to paint and draw) while her siblngs had career plans and focus!
I remember thinking - oh goodness that's me (minus the bright bit!) in a few decades' (ahem!) time!! LOL!
On another side note the PA of our University Chancellor fired off an email to all of us because an educational magazine was about to publish the salaries of all academic Chancellors and ours was The Top Paid person even more paid than his Oxford or Cambridge Uni equivalent!!! And this as at a time when the man was wanting to "restructure" academic depts. in the name of financial constraints. Anyway the email was such a defensive defence of why the Chancellor was paid this much salary it was utterly hilarious!!
I think I'll join you in your disney land la la's!!
Take care
