Thursday Thoughts
Randomness for this Thursday:
It's amazing how quickly someone with my body type will pack on the pounds when drinking one or two mugs of chai tea every day, made with 1% or even skim milk and a bit of honey. Plus two big mugs of coffee loaded with lite cream. Plus instant capps or iced coffees. Considering I must be consuming about 600 calories a day in non-alcoholic beverages, maybe my black slacks didn't really shrink after all. :-p (Actually, they did, because they are shorter. BTW, one mug of morning coffee stays, the rest go.)

I met this cat on the way home a couple of days ago. A real cutie, though s/he had a messy behind, which makes me think s/he's having food issues. I didn't quite notice if s/he was male or female--all I noticed was the very dirty back end. And that s/he, while quite friendly, also is a biter.
Notice the mis-matched eyes. (Enlarging might help.)

I think the generic brand of allergy and sinus meds I bought at Wal-Mart last week or the week before might be the reason for my completely out-of-it feeling in my head. I assumed the stuff was non-drowsy, but I don't think so. The 24-hour allergy meds are a waste of money--I get, at most, 8 hours of relief from them. I'll take my allergies, though, over how I've been feeling lately. I've been going home and barely managing to make a piece of toast for supper, before falling asleep on the living room floor or crawling into bed at 7:30PM. It's like my head and body just aren't in sync.

I'm going to see if I can do a "strawberry" or "happy" every day, for a year. I've added a new page to this site for the purpose. But I'm not turning it into an obligatory thing--that would take all the fun out of it. Mostly I want to do this for my Self, to remind myself that even though I truly don't envision anything (large scale) good or wonderful in the years ahead for me, I still have so much for which to be thankful and "happy".
*
And in the same vein...Why are the "good" things in life mostly little day to day things, small things, quiet things? And the crap so huge? (Thinking illness, death, loss of other kinds, etc.) How come most the "good" things aren't as "large" as the "bad" things, if that makes sense?

No one has expressed an interest in taking Toby, no surprise. I take my morning mug of coffee out front with me and we take a little walk around the block. The silly boy comes with me, rolls all over the ground, zooms back to "our" house when we're done. I think I'm stuck with him. But what to do to offer him a little shelter, if he wants it? (He might prefer to hang out where he normally goes after he leaves my house, but I at least want to offer him a warm spot on my step this winter.) I have about 3 feet in length to work with, and about 20 inches in depth. Sure, I can/will outfit a Rubbermaid container with insulation and, I hope, straw, but it would be nice to come up with a more attractive solution so neighbours don't complain about the unsightly plastic. Bear in mind I'm not particularly handy with power tools. I'm okay with a jigaw, but don't want to touch a compound mitre saw or table saw. I have them, but they scare me.
You can see in the March snapshot below how little depth my front step has. And I need room for food and water dishes as well. Ideas are welcome.

And that's enough random rambling. One more day till the weekend, yay! And I'm doing a count down on the number of days left to work before Dad's visit, partly because I'm looking forward to seeing him and partly because I'm taking 8 vacation days, so will have 12 days in total, including weekends, away from the office.
Now that's a happy!
Yes, keeping calm and carrying on here.... :-)
Comments
Mother Teresa once said (and I'm paraphrasing) "We were not meant to do great things... only little things with great love".
I have that shrub right by my step and it WAS pretty sheltered before my neighbour and I cut most of it down (because the mother wanted it trimmed so she could keep an eye on her kids from their doorstep). But I still could put down a deep bed of straw. It's just not that protected from the elements anymore (around the base of the shrub, I mean).
I only stick to one allergy drug and that's the one you squirt up your nose! That works for me (although at first they gave me raging headaches then I guess my body got used to it!).
Enjoy your strawberry days! Take care

I'd have Toby too - if I could (but I guess that's not much use to you :-))
I know the feeling with the black pants - thank all the small gods for elastic waistbands...
Oh Toby you are such a dear.
We wish we could have you.
