I'd almost rather stick pins in my eyes
So we had an update meeting at work yesterday. Our little office falls under the umbrella of a larger planning department now, and the head of the entire thing (my director's boss) wants us all to be 14 f***ing happy campers in one work space. We knew she wanted this when her role was created last year (restructuring...you know, the kind of stuff that goes on so the top people can pretend they're doing something useful).
But it fell by the wayside, with other matters taking priority.
Not so in 2013.
But oh, apparently there will be no reduction in space, compared to what we have now.
The enormous irony?
My employer paid millions upon millions of dollars to move all the top-level admin departments into this building--it was completely renovated, top to bottom, and looks quite nice, actually.
And where are they possibly looking to move us all?
Back to our old 1960s-1970s building, in one of the grungy suites that currently is occupied by another department.
There is no way on this earth that anyone can turn that old concrete space into anything even remotely as spacious and attractive as this.
So:
1. I can kiss my lovely cubicle space goodbye at some point.
2. There go our flexible hours within our little unit, because she is going to want us all to be there during specific hours (though my boss claims we report to him and it's what works for him--yeah, you go ahead and think that)
3. We'll all be together, all three units, and frankly, one of them seems to be terribly snobby, the other is my obnoxious former co-worker, one I used to call (privately) a little Hitler....Oh, you get the idea.
But:
I'm not going to fuss (too much) about this yet, as things tend to take longer than anticipated, and in any case, I have no control over where they move us. Besides, I could win the lottery before this happens, or be dead, and in either case I wouldn't care. :-p
My greater concern would be whether I still have a job after all the moving/restructuring!
I'll leave you with a pretty calendar pic for the day, since I have no pics of my own.

We'll see.
In any case, nothing happens quickly--a lot of things would have to fall into place first, back in the old building, before we could all move over.
But hey, if they want to move everyone else on this side of the building OUT and thus free up space, and we stay where we are...Well, I'd be okay with that. Mostly.
One of my mantras is that things are as they are meant to be. After I quiet that part of my brain that is anxious about change I didn't initiate, I'm able to relax into it and see how it turns out.
A good chunk of unwanted change in my life has lead me to better things.
