After you've dunked your silver chain and crystal pendant into your jar of silver-cleaning solution, ensure you put the plug in the sink before rinsing it off. Otherwise, the one--one--time you forgo the plug, you might, in fact, end up dropping your necklace down the drain.

However, if you're lucky enough to still be holding the chain, with the pendant stuck down said drain, it is possible to retrieve it without shutting off the water and taking things apart. It requires (a) patience, (b) a small flash light, (c) a long knitting needle, and (d) more patience.
