Happy June 1st!

I always feel a bit of a pang when June arrives, because the summer Solstice will be here in three weeks, and then we'll start to lose daylight again. Most people are so excited for the arrival of summer, but to me it means the downward slide into winter.

But never mind that right now. Right now I'm going to enjoy the evening as best I can.

This is not in my garden, it's along the side of another unit.
Anyone know what it is? I haven't a clue.

Obviously, I'm connected to the internet at home again. It was all systems go when I got home from work on Thursday, so I called the cable company to cancel the service call. However, the actual local tech called me a few minutes after I hung up, said he'd been out in the afternoon. He asked if the grass had been cut recently. Yes, I said, on Tuesday, the day I developed the problem. And yes, people, I thought of a severed wire along the side of my unit, and had checked, but the cable seemed fine to me. However, the tech told me that while the wire hadn't been severed, it seemed to have been caught by the grass trimmer and pulled and/or nicked, hence my loss of phone, internet and most cable. He rerouted the wire and buried it underground--which likely should have been done years ago, by the tech who initially did the wiring. He didn't mention a service charge, and I certainly hope I'm not billed for one, even though it wasn't anything to do with the cable company or their devices.

Afterward, I emailed our property management company to let them know what happened, and to suggest they caution the grass-cutting company that other end units might have protruding cables.

Friday I was home, after having had the worst case of heartburn (or something that felt like heartburn) all Thursday night (and no sleep). I've been having a flare up again for the past few weeks, but Thursday night/early Friday AM took the cake. I do have "a million" gall stones, so it could be related to that, but a breakfast at Tim Horton's today of bacon, egg and cheese in a whole wheat wrap didn't affect me at all. Maybe it's the excess of coffee I've been drinking for far too long, as well as the excess of chocolate...excess in general. I haven't had any coffee for the past couple of days, or chocolate either. I'd do well to stay away from the trigger foods and see if that makes a difference, because over-the-counter maximum strength Tums, Pepcid and Zantac don't make any difference. (And thanks to some of you who had suggestions over on the Fuzzy Tales blog.)

I'm still exhausted, as I find it difficult to sleep well when propped up in bed. But I do feel better today. And for any middle-aged women who read this blog: I'll be curious to know if this happens again, as this severe bout coincided with my cycle, which happened to be a week early. (Yes! Bring on menopause, baby!)

Today I got a few errands done, was out for several hours in fact, but still didn't manage to finish. Ran out of steam. I got a few things done in the house, the usual stuff, but then fell asleep for an hour or so on the couch, which I didn't mean to do at all. I just sat down for a few minutes, with Derry on my lap, and when he left I curled up and was out like a light.

Right now I'm listening to the next door mother pound around like she weighs 500 pounds, when she's lighter than I am. ::Sigh:: Last weekend she and the kids were gone and it was so lovely and quiet. There's always a price to pay for those times!

BTW, the family at #12 (across the street) finally moved on Friday. They had sold their unit in March or early April. The adjoining neighbours, who became friends with them, helped them move--I noticed them from time to time, when I peeked out to see how things were coming along. I said to myself last evening, when I saw the new people moving in and saw their baby carrier, that I bet dollars to doughnuts the adjoining mother (or both) will be over there right away, ingratiating themselves welcoming them. Sure enough, I saw them kissing ass (not literally) with the newcomers this afternoon. That's my perception re: the next door mother, that she would ingratiate herself right away and make sure everyone's on her side. I am soooo glad I ignore them completely, no eye contact, not a hello, nothing. What would be the point? I'd be vilified (by her) if I tried to be polite, and I'm sure I'm vilified for not engaging in any way. I prefer to ignore them completely.

If I still feel okay tomorrow, I'll head out of town with a couple of friends to visit a mutual friend. She has 6 or 7 cats in her house right now, all rescues, some were feral kittens, and I have extra cat stuff to pass on, tunnels and toys the boys don't use.

And if I do feel too under-the-weather to go, the guys will take the cat stuff to her anyway. So it's a win-win.

That's it for now. At the moment we're under a severe thunderstorm watch, so I'm going to get off-line and shut down. I'll wish everyone a wonderful day to come!

Purrs from the boys and peace from me.

I had thought the plant might be a burning bush shrub, as it looks similar to one my mom had. But the google search doesn't match so I hope someone else will know.

Here's hoping you are feeling better tomorrow. I'm sure the kitties will enjoy the toys.

Stay safe!

Some kind of fruit blossom! Pomegranate!?!

Oh Kim - when I get to my period time my belly totally rebels on me. I have wind, gas, lots of burping, cramps... bleagh. And these days I notice these get worse when my period is erratic. I keep thinking it's cos I've gone totally weird with my diet. I'm eating lots and lots and lots of raw vegetables and my coffee intake has sky rocketed! LOL! But I also notice these days I have low tolerance of spicy foods (I LOVE spicy foods) and beer (ESSENTIAL!). Very frustrating! Also I am on long term for life medication which doesn't help - they do list side effects as stomach cramps etc. So maybe if you are on long term medication - maybe these contribute too? But when I was younger, I never used to suffer with any of the above while on these meds! LOL! So I don't know! Taking antacids totally helps!

But your symptoms sound totally bad! Glad you are feeling a better - getting enough sleep is important and stress-free rest!!

Hope the thunderstorms have gone away now. Today here we have finally some sun, some warmth, some respite from all the greyness and wetness of the earlier week!! Yay!

Take care
x
My parents home phone line and internet connection used to break down ever so often. And all because of marauding monkeys. ;)
Reading about your 500# wanna be next door mother makes me so thankful for my neighbors.

Every June 1st, I am so keenly aware of the start of Hurricane season. We all tune in for different things.

Hope you are feeling well enough for your excursion. And that your weekend was enjoyable and peace filled.

Rhododendron?

I STILL have weird gut stuff once a month, despite my parts being gone! It is better, though. Did you know we have as many neurons in our gut as there are in a cat's brain? There's a lesson in that somewhere...

You go see your doc about the heartburn, it sounds like GERD and that's not to be fooled with. Scott takes Prilosec and it works, great. Also, exercize helps enormously.

And...package will go out Monday, falling on my knee has put a crimp in my week, drat.

Poor Kim. I used to take Losec 40 mg. but when I was diagnosed Celiac and stopped eating wheat, barley and rye everything settled down. I still have some in mr drawer, as I remember the pain only too well. But I haven't had to take any for a couple of years now!
I hope you feel much better soon XO
I think the heartburn is definitely tied to coffee! I drink way too much coffee and this past week had AWFUL heartburn (that I don't usually get)

As for menopause, be careful what you wish for! I have been in it for years and it comes with its own unique set of annoyances!

I drink a lot of coffee but don't get heartburn, but that probably just means I'm fortunate. However, I have a terrible stomach that has just gotten worse as I get older, and yes, it's always worse at that time of the month. What about Trish's recommendation of Prilosec? Maybe the drug store has a generic brand to be cheaper. Some of the name brand OTC meds are so expensive.

I wore blouse today similar to the color of that pretty plant in your top pic only the flowers' color is prettier.

Being in Texas, when we go into June, I dread it because I know the super hot months are coming (July, August & September). I would love cooler weather here.

I hope you get some more rest, feel better and are able to visit your friend!
The reddish orange flower looks like some sort of azalea.
I have to be careful with chocolate, too. Terrible heartburn, but a Tums takes care of it, thank Cod. Getting older is not for sissies. Congrats to the neighbor have somebody else to torment. They'll find out her true self just like you did.

Looks like an azalea to me, too, but could be a rhododendron - a larger version of an azalea.

The new neighbours will probably get to know your old neighbours well enough to realise what they are like. And they'll learn what you're like, too. Being yourself is your advantage. Your crappy neighbours can't afford to be themselves with new friends...
