The "real" birthday
We celebrated Derry's 6th birthday yesterday, over at the boys' blog. A fun cyber party, one of several around the CB on Monday.
The real celebration was far tamer--it was so hot and muggy that Derry didn't even want to go out (or stay out, when I pushed him out the door) yesterday afternoon.
Early in the AM, while still relatively cool:
He got a little nip "pillow" before I left for work, and was having a great time with it, until Nicki came along and decided he'd beat up on the birthday boy (nip makes Nicki mean, as most of you know).
Derry got another nip toy, a wool fish, when I got home (Nicki was outside):
After about two minutes of being outside: Let me back in, human!
I'd rather hang out here, thanks, the floor is cooler.
Finally, much later in the evening, he was happy to go out and chill in his red/pink chair. I hope he appreciated that I stayed up till almost 9PM, way past my bedtime, just so he (okay, and Nicki too) could enjoy the outdoor time and cooling breeze.
I admit I never celebrated birthdays or adoption days until becoming a part of the Cat Blogosphere. They get spoiled every day at it is and they certainly don't need anymore toys or treats. But it gives me an excuse to smooch them to pieces--which Derry will tolerate better than Nicki. :-)Purrs from the furry four-leggeds and peace from me.

My jaw dropped when you mentioned that 9pm was *way* past your bedtime. 9pm is when I have my dinner (and that's considered early). LOL.
The boys don't let me sleep past 4:15 anyway--even though I'd love to!
Derry is so gorgeous - look at him! Such a content happy boy! Take care

I have to admit we don't celebrate individual birthdays here... but the 6 of them do get special gifts on Christmas... as well as throughout the year.
Derry is on hunk 'a mancat!
p.s. You're so lucky that it cools off there in the evenings. That's one thing I'm still not used to in Texas. In the summer, it never cools off until maybe 2:00 a.m. or later and that's just a little cooler.
We're not quite as hot here thankfully, since the a/c has decided not to do its job this summer! I hope it cools off to a more tolerable temperatures for you soon.
Hugs
