Doozy of a Storm

We just had a wild thunder/lightning/wind/rain storm! Whew! Didn't help to clear out the humidity, but it sure watered the garden.

Alas, my glorious "old" ivy (maybe 10 years old now, or close to it) took a beating. It went from this (a few days ago):

It was being supported by one medium-sized trellis and it was just too heavy to withstand the wind. So now I have the ivy/trellis anchored around the fence support with some string, temporarily, till I decide what to do. I don't want to cut it all back, it's intact. Maybe I can get a couple of larger trellises, then cut it back late in the fall? Suggestions?

Odd how the wind brought it (and the bamboo trellis in the corner) down, but didn't disturb the lawn chairs or potted plants.

BTW, guess who I happened to see just before 6PM, when I was upstairs in my bedroom closing the curtains? Yeah, the next door mother. So the father did bring at least part of his "loving" family home on Sunday. I presume she's been at work when I've gotten home from the office, hence the reason for thinking she still wasn't around. The kids are not around; I'd definitely hear the screaming if they were. They must (still?) be with the grandmother, maybe till the weekend.

P.S. The butterfly header is from a September 2010 snapshot taken on the way home from work. I've used it before, though not with the drop shadow frame.

Oh that ivy is beautiful, hope you find some anchoring mechanisms to secure it back again.

I LOVE the header. It has been so chilly and raining aways here I haven't had the opportunity to take any butterfly pictures.

Our weather has been gloomy and rainy the last couple of days and our plants are very happy too!
I wonder if the kids make as much noise when with their grandmother. At least you still have a few more quiet days before mayhem returns. Keep "chanting" your little mantra! ;)

You received a storm, too, eh? It would be almost worth the trouble if it would feel fresher afterward, but it's like having a shower in 100% humidity: you feel as bad afterward as before. I hope the boys weren't scared during the storm.

Oh my goodness about the ivy! Rats about the mother but hooray that the kids are still away...for now.

We've had some storms this week too. It brought our temps down, which was a blessing.

You have a lovely little garden Kim, sorry about the storm. I was woken by an earthquake this morning, glad the neighbours didn't have to find me in my bra and knickers.

Glad to hear you made it safely through the storm - with the exception of the ivy.

If there is a way to anchor the trellis (or trellises) to the fence, I would hope both plants and trellis withstand the force of the wind.

Hopefully the neighbour kids spend the summer with Grandma!

The banner photo is truly lovely. I was watching the news last night and there was an article about the lack of monarch butterflies in Canada this year. It is sad, as they are so beautiful.
