At 103...

...Joe still gets around with a walker, feeds himself and remembers everything.
He has all his mental faculties, though he's very hard of hearing and is difficult to understand (his speech). He still think every woman should be/wants to be married/remarried, though. LOL. That sure hasn't changed from GaspĂ© days!  :-)

His daughter made a lovely lunch and we spent a few hours there before heading home. Dad was glad to see him, as it had been a few years (not since Joe's 100th birthday celebration). I think Joe was glad to see Dad too. I think he even was glad to see me, after 33 years. He seemed pleased, at any rate. I'm sure it's the only time I'll see him before he passes. He said things (i.e. life) started to go downhill after 95, as that was when he had to give up hunting, fishing and trapping. Seriously. How many 95 year olds do you know who still hunt, fish and trap in the first place?!

Anyway, I know I surely don't want to live to 103!

Dad and I, and then Joe's daughter next to me, and Joe and her husband (he has MS) in front.
Oh, we drove to Gananoque on the way up, by the way, then got off the 401 highway and took the Thousand Islands Parkway to Brockville, stopped in Brockville for a cup of coffee and snack before driving the rest of the way to Manotick.

Eating again-both of us.  :-)
Then we got a bit sidetracked, inadvertently, before we picked up highway 416 heading to Ottawa. But we did stumble across the "Battle of the Windmill," of all things.

This is the government's idea of "facilities." LOL. In all fairness, there's not much of interest at this spot and I suppose they wouldn't have the funds to put in a real washroom.

Just another tiny piece of Canadian (and Ontario) history.

So that was our day, and trust me, I was deeply relieved and thankful to get home at 5PM, and off that highway. Have I mentioned I don't travel well? And this end of the 401 isn't even the insane part of it, it's toward Toronto that things really get hairy. But yesterday afternoon it seemed all we did was pass transports that were swaying across their lane with their loads. Ugh.

No more highway for me now. We have some things in the house to do today, and errands as well, and then Dad will pack up and go sometime tomorrow, probably early afternoon at a guess. His week here always passes quickly!

Purrs from the boys and peace from me.

P.S. What's with the bizarre Blogger change to my template widths? I've had the layout set for years now, my sidebar and post content widths, but all of a sudden some of my sidebar images were too large and were bleeding over into the post part of the template. I've had to readjust my widths and re-upload some of the pics, and I must say, this does not please me!

What a lovely day! Amazing at 103. If only we all would be so fortunate, and it sounds like Joe has a great family too. Feel very much for his daughter with both her Father and Husband needing caregiving. Glad you and your Dad had such a great week.

What a lovely visit you're having with your Dad, and I'm still amazed at Joe...103! He reminds me of my uncle J.R. who had to give up the 15 yards that he mowed regularly (with a PUSH mower) when he was 82. He's nearly 90 now and still going....

Nice to see a photo of you and your Dad.

I know the Toronto freeways seemed really crazy when we drove them. So, I can imagine what you saying. (the drive from the airport to Toronto)

Pets to the boys,

JC
I can't believe a week has gone by! Time sure flies right by when you're having fun.

Joe looks great at 103 and his daughter is amazing to look after both her dad and husband. I'm pretty sure I don't want to live to 103 either. ;)

Rwally nice pictures of all of you and I agree with the others about Joe's daughter being so wonderful. Joe's pretty special himself. What a nice day you had and I'm sure you're a little sad about your dad leaving.

BTW, the type on your blog is now smaller and your side areas are huge, meaning you have way more white space on the sides. I wonder if you what you saw was some kind of fluke and when you fixed it, it made your blog small. Not sure I'm communicating this well, but if you revert your settings back to what they were, I wonder if it will look the same again.

Sounds like you had a lovely visit. Glad the drive went well too!

I'm seeing more white space to the left and right of your blog as well than I recall. Blogger can be such a pain!

Enjoy the rest of your visit with Dad.

Hey Kim you look great! and I would not have recognized your dad if I passed him on the street.. or sat next to him at Tim's!

I am like you Kim, living to 103 doesn't interest me, but your friend is amazing!!

I didn't realise the template had changed til you mentioned it. I guess a lot of bloggers try to make money from their blog and want bigger sidebaars.

Enjoy the travels with your dad.

If things start going downhill for me at 95, I'd consider myself lucky. I wouldn't mind living to be 103, if I still had all my faculties, physical and mental, like Joe does (taking into account natural deterioration through age, of course.)

That's a good picture of you and him, by the bye.
