It's comforting others can relate!
I do find it comforting that others can relate to the difficult work situations.
I slept marginally better last night, so feel more inclined to take a 'wait and see' stance today. I'm lucky in that I do respect my boss, and for 13 years have pretty much been able to come and go (within reason) as I please, as have we all. Working 7AM to 3PM, for example. Though these days it's more 7:30AM/7:45AM to 3:30PM/3:45PM. I don't like getting home later, of course, but in our larger group, I'm the only one who leaves so early and I feel like I stand out too much.
I will give my boss's boss credit (she's the young one who took over after the big firing in June). Yesterday she asked me to book 3PM today for cake for someone here who is leaving (was filling in for the year for maternity leave). Then a few minutes later she came back to my desk and told me to go ahead and book it at 2:30PM, since she just remembered I usually leave around 3PM. I told her no, no, it was no problem, that I tend to come in later these days. I do give her points for that. She knows nothing about what our office does, but I suppose she's making an effort not to stir things up too much. Yet.
I'm not having much interaction with the former co-worker. A "cheery" greeting in the morning, a small bit of chitchat, that's it.
So while I can't say I'm "happy" today, I'm calmer. And yes, I'm trying to bear in mind that when I leave here, either at retirement or for other reasons, I won't give anyone in this office a second thought. Okay, my long-time female coworker who has supported me for the past 13 years! But certainly none of the "other" group.
Plus, I had lunch today with the two staff members who moved upstairs recently (my former cubicle mate and their department's admin person). That was lovely! I stop in every day to see them anyway, and catch up and/or vent, but I still miss their presence in this suite.
So it's not all in the toilet. Just most of it. :-P
I have no new pics downloaded onto the computer yet, had snapped another pic of my little tree on the weekend.
Oh, I can't wait to go home. Vodka with club soda and a healthy squeeze of fresh lemon, I think. That, too, will help. :-)
Purrs from the boys and peace from me.

Am glad it was a tad bit better today.
I hope that your co-worker tries to meet you half way.
You know she may be feeling some of the same things you do too.
What? That I'm a cold, soulless, heartless b*tch?
Vodka sounds good!
