A good deal?

I so rarely open all the Amazon.ca "deals of the day/week/weekend" emails, but for some reason I clicked on yesterday's.

And scored a Hoover carpet cleaner for half-price, on sale for $150, regularly $300. $170 with taxes, no shipping charges of course.

I had seen this one a couple of weeks ago, while online comparison shopping for a desperately-needed carpet cleaner, though I think Amazon was offering it for about $260 or $270. (Or maybe that was the air purifier I was looking at!) This machine was very well reviewed, so I have my fingers crossed it will turn out to be a good investment.

All four rooms upstairs still are carpeted, and while I vacuum multiple times a week and spot clean as needed, I can well imagine the filth embedded in the fibres, particularly in the two high-use rooms, my bedroom and the adjacent spare room with the litter box. If this works well, it probably will pay for itself in one use, compared with hiring a professional carpet-cleaning company to come in and do it all. Plus I can do one room a weekend, starting with the worst, my bedroom.

I don't know if it will help Nicki's asthma and allergies at all, but I have to try everything I can for him, never mind my own allergies.

It should arrive at the end of next week, around July 11th, so I'll see how it works next weekend, if all goes well.

Just a thought... When we had our poor allergy-ridden Poppy - with her kidney failure - I decided to try feeding her a raw food diet which I made myself. It takes almost no time to make a batch of food, but you need be very careful to get the balance correct and you may need to buy additives off the interwebs. Connie will know the website for the recipe.
Perhaps you can even buy the food pre-made in Canada?
Little Poppy's allergies cleared like magic...

I often say I wish I had carpets so I don't have to mop the floors. But after reading your post, I can just imagine the furs and dust and what not buried deep in my imaginary carpet and that scares me. LOL.

I always had a good Kenmore canister and this one I had for 15 years. Ran like a new one. But it died a few months ago so I went to my back up, a very small bag less little Dirt Devil upright. I was disenchanted with it as it only has like a 20 foot cord and one has to plug it in room to room. I finally wised up and got an extension cord, plugged it in and the silky black fur that came up off all the carpeting filled the dust container to the brim every time. I would clean it out and vacuum again a few days later and again, filled with silky black furs. It took 6-8 vacuumings to get the embedded furs out of the carpet again and it has never looked better. Cost? 39.00 USD.

I purchased a carpet cleaner, a Bissell a few years ago from Walmart and paid about the same price. So you did well, to get a Hoover as I believe these are are better brand.

I think it's already paid for itself, although I don't as often as I probably should.

Hopefully it will help Nicki with his allergies. It's worth a try and I suspect it would be less stressful for the cats than having the commercial cleaners come in. ;)

I think it's a good deal. We bought a Hoover carpet cleaner before we moved into this place. We decided to not replace the carpeting but it was in desperate need of cleaning. I had made an appointment with a professional carpet cleaning service but buying our Hoover was almost the same price. In the past, we've rented them and renting them about three or four times is almost the same as buying. The soap is expensive though.

I hope you like the results! I also hope it helps Nicki.

I hope this helps with your Nicki's asthma. I replaced the carpet downstairs with linoleum and have a lot more cat-hair and litter-powder to sweep up, but at least it's getting collected. I hope this machine does the same sort of thing there.
