No, as a matter of fact, I *didn't* miss you

We were off-line (the whole building) for the entire morning, didn't get back on till about 11:30. So for that reason and because I hate (with a passion) work get-togethers, I skipped the "pizza in the park" today. Caught up on some stuff while eating leftovers at my desk.

A coworker just laughingly asked me if I missed them. I responded in politically correct fashion.

But frankly, no, I didn't miss them at all. And I wouldn't miss any of them if I never saw them again.

There's my baldly honest answer. The one I can't voice out loud.

Jeezus, how many years till retirement or the lottery win, whichever comes first?

My window replacement yesterday went well. Turned out he did it first, because they were unable to get in touch with the owner of the (rental) unit across the street from me. So the installer (the usual guy) showed up just after 8AM and was done before 9:30AM. (Small window.)

Old window below. Apparently the panes of sliding glass were larger than in the other small windows and didn't fit the frame properly, or so I was told, which was most of the reason I was getting such a draft. Who knew? I'm hardly ever in that room, certainly not to notice a difference in the size of the panes. (Don't ask how many years it's been since I've taken any out to clean.)

It bugs me that they don't replace the old frames, though, not on the outside or the inside. The outside frame is covered up with vinyl, that's it. Trust our crappy property management company to take our condo fees but not ensure work is thoroughly and properly done.

Still, the window will have a better seal and caulking, so it should help this winter, fingers crossed.

The boys were forced to stay out in the garden the entire time, which made Nicki very unhappy. Derry just hid under the step or under one of the hostas.

I ran a couple of quick errands afterward, then had the day to myself, as I had take it as a vacation day.
Nicki: I want in, human!

Now I'm anticipating the imminent return of the "fleas." I had expected them this past Sunday, based on what happened last year, but I've had an extra 4 nights and 3 days, so I can't bitch too much. The father left yesterday at 9AM, though, and wasn't back last night, so I can only assume he headed up to his mother's, to get them all.

I'm paid tomorrow. I must stock up on rye, beer, wine...something. Anything that helps me endure having them all home again. Too bad I don't smoke and don't want to, otherwise I could obtain other substances. LOL.

Peace.

Glad your window replacement went well and that it is done. Hope you get more peace in your weekend and that it isn't too crazy with next door. Yes, "adult beverages", we hear ya! We found a nice combo with real strawberries, the skinny girl margarita mix and a blender...yep it packs a punch when you need it the most...

I like the picture of Nicki. Cute. :)

Good thing the window replacement is done. I wonder what our Homeowner's Assoc will be like once we need them to do something. We sure pay them enough. Here's hoping there will be an acceptable level of noise this weekend and no more.

Glad the repairman came early so you could have the rest of the day for yourself (and the boys!).

I'm crossing my fingers the children may have "matured" over the summer or at least be into video games/I thingies. My kids were never so quiet as when I got them both the handheld Nintendos. Now the parents...that's a different matter.

Yikes, there isn't anyone at work you like? That's has to be a toxic atmosphere. I have two close work friends, both of whom I hang out with outside of work as well. Without them I think I'd go nuts.

Have a great long weekend!

Your attitude toward your work is the same as mine. I don't like getting together with my colleagues, either. I always skip the Christmas dinner - the one 'bonus' my boss has ever paid us - because it would mean spending several hours with those people. Some are certainly tolerable, but the association is of work, and it reminds me of work, and my free time is supposed to be just that.

I often wonder what it would be like to enjoy or even love my job, to look forward to going to it. Some people do, I hear.

Glad the window reno went so smoothly!
I had it both ways in my final office. It was a small office only 4 other women. Over time the four faces changed due to job changes or retirements. For 2 years there was peace and harmony for the most part and it was not a bad place to work. Then when my favorite boss retired and new co-workers arrived the atmosphere was toxic. I had to survive in it alone for about 18 months before I retired. I didn't realize until I left how isolating that was and how much it affected me psychologically. It took me a least 1 year to detox from that. So I understand. I never understood one good male colleague who detested those work parties and lunches, but those last 18 months I detested them too. (Maybe because I was expected to be the set up and tear down person had something to do with it) Perspectives change when you experience things like that yourself, which is why it is good to try to be understanding as much as possible.
*speaking to myself mind you*

That's nice that your window has been replaced before the onset of winter. And yes, Nicki does look miffed. ;)

Your comments about work remind me of a line from the movie "Office Space." The protagonist is totally burned out, and does not care about his job. When the company-hired auditors meet with him, they say, "We notice you've been missing a lot of work lately." To which he replies, "Well, I wouldn't say I've been 'missing' it." LOL
