Only one guest for September (and other updates)

It'll just be Dad, per usual, in September, as his wife had dental surgery yesterday, and will have her final work done on September 24th. I'm sure she won't mind skipping the visit this year, as she's afraid of cats.

So I have his trip to look forward to, though don't have enough vacation time to take every day off. Still, I'll take a couple of days, and that will be good. Dad likes to putter around sight-seeing on his own, anyway. Plus he should be here over two weekends, which is great.

This might be my last weekend of peace and quiet in the house, as the neighbour kids are due back soon. They've been gone all summer, as they were last year, presumably to the grandmother's. If they follow the same pattern, they'll return on the 24th, but it's always possible they'll be back on the 17th.

It's fabulous to have the peace, to feel like I have a real home, but I do find it very hard to readjust once things return to "normal."

I'm finding the week hard to get through. I'm busy, just would prefer to be on paid vacation. Wouldn't we all.

Derry had a vet check last week, regular stuff. A new-to-us vet, previously on maternity leave. I wasn't impressed at her cursory exam (temperature, heart/lungs, abdominal palpitations, claws clipped and Advantage) or with the charge of $105. She didn't think he needed a dental yet, but her peek into his mouth was so quick, how could she tell? I think I'll ask for Nicki's vet the next time (he was off on holiday last week). She did comment on his weight, though, and the words "diet" and "food restriction" were bandied about. I do notice he's gained, as has Nicki. My fault, I'm the one who doles out the servings.

Nicki goes next Tuesday afternoon for his anal glands. The fun never stops.

My hip/back/glute pain is pretty much back to the level it was at before the steroid injection. I was doing reasonably well through last week, but things have gone downhill this week, likely from sitting on my butt all day at the computer. I do get up repeatedly, but I think all this sitting exacerbates (or has even caused) most of the pain. I'll decide shortly how I want to approach this going forward: physio or athletic therapy or something else. The massager was helping the knots, but they're really bothering me again this week.

Yeah, this mid-life stuff is fun. LOL. Gotta laugh about it, nothing else you can do.

I think that's about it. Oh, I'm not keeping up with most cat blogs at the moment, am not in the mood, need a break from most of it. I regularly waffle on whether to let the Fuzzy Tales blog go altogether or just take a hiatus. Whatever, it'll be what it will be.  :-)

I'll leave you with a few snapshots from Fort Henry hill, last Sunday morning.

Peace.
These defensive towers are everywhere in our region.
(First two pics are the same tower.)

Looking toward RMC. Downtown is off to the right, out of the frame.
The other side of Fort Henry, looking at another tower.
 A fourth tower.
Not a tower. Ha.
Wolfe Island Ferry heading from our side to theirs.

No going back to "work" after vacation is not fun. It used to be that I hated taking time off as going back was awful. I ended up just taking a few days and tied them into a holiday for mini vacations. Glad to know you'll still have some good time with your Dad. Everything always takes care of itself, sometimes in unexpected ways.

I am happy that your dad is coming. I must say though, I never understood people who are "afraid" of cats. I have known people who are, but...seriously? People scare me far more than any animal.
Glad you'll have your dad's visit to look forward to.

I know what you mean about a cursory exam of the cats being so costly. That's why I stopped taking mine for annual exams. Without exaggeration, I believe that I could determine if they were out of sorts as much as a vet could based on what she does in the five minutes allotted to a cat.

I'm sorry your pain is back. It must be a dreadful feeling, sensing its return. I hope you will be able to find something for it again. Another steroid shot?

Thank you for your comment about Josie. I hadn't thought about constipation. I will be on the look-out for her poop, though she's not as easy to monitor as Tucker.

On the bright side, you live in a beautiful part of the country.
The Annual Dad Visit. :) That's something to look forward to!

And LEAVE the Fuzzy Tales blog alone! ;) We like visiting and looking at the pictures of Nicki and Derry tussling. Just update when you the mood hits you. It's not a job, so there's no fixed schedule to follow.

I know what you mean about the cursory exam. I'm not sure Ashton even got that since she was in for her anal glands and we realized her vaccinations were due mid-visit. I keep mulling the all-feline practice to see if I feel I get my money's worth.

If sitting is the trigger for the pain, what about a standing desk? I keep trying to think how to convert my desk at work for at least part time standing, which is supposed to have other health benefits, too.

Hee hee hee...we had to laugh about Nicki's **blush** anal glands...
"The fun never stops."

Hope you have a good visit with your Dad and maybe the neighbor kids will be a bit quieter this year. Hope springs eternal, right?
Fort Henry looks gorgeous. We would miss Fuzzy Tales, we hope you will come back after a break.

Gorgeous photos as always! I'd gladly send you some of our heat for views like that!!

Mid-life is definitely not fun. Sorry you are still hurting. I hope it eases a little at least.

Good luck to Nicki at the vet - I'm sure he'd rather stay home.

Hope your weekend goes well and the noisy neighbours stay away for at least another week or two. School shouldn't start until the end of August, right?
