I am BEYOND embarrassed!!!

OMG, I was just upstairs chatting with my former cubicle-mate, telling her about a PBS series called How We Got To Now, a program that looks at human-history changing inventions like artificial light, refrigeration, etc.

Well, I'd seen the episode about light (fascinating), and was telling her that in the days of candlelight only, it was the norm for humans to go to bed with the dark, sleep for a few hours, wake for an hour or two, and then go back to bed for a few more hours until sunrise.

During the awake time, around midnight or so, the historian being interviewed said people used that time to do chores, tend to the animals and of course make babies. (They'd have had a few hours' sleep and would be more rested for the baby-making -- lol.)

Anyway, S was standing in her office suite doorway facing me and the hall, and I was facing her, with my back to the corridor. I was joking, suggesting that she use her middle-of-the-night awake time for her chores...or for baby-making! (She's my age, no more babies.)

But unknown to me, the Provost was behind me, heading into their kitchen!

OMG, I just about died on the spot.

I wasn't saying anything crude, but still....! It couldn't have been a director? It had to be the Provost? Second in the chain of command of the entire university?

I. Could. Crawl. Into. A. Crack. On. The. Floor.

*Headdesk*

May you not do anything as foolish today!

The provost probably got a good chuckle over it, and called up the chancellor to tell him about it.

I had the exact same thought as John!

Actually, John speaks for most of us, it seems! Ha!

I'm with John on this one too! Or he may not have overheard at all...depends whether he was thinking about something else.

I've said my share of foolish things as well. It happens to all of us, even the bosses. The first time I met one of our senior managers (now retired) I walked into the office to hear her say, "I don't swim in lakes because fish f**k in them". Yikes!

Have a great weekend!

LOL. That's pretty funny! I'm sure the provost got a laugh out of that, too.
