Sunday Stuff

Hmm, where to start.

Well, it's pretty quiet at my end. My "big" boss will be back tomorrow after a week's holiday, a cruise someplace warm. I'm trying not to think about the week ahead at the office. I'm very, very grateful for my paycheque, that's the best I can manage.

Nicki's okay at the moment. I picked up the Ventolin (bronchodilator) yesterday, a few cents less than $10. Whew. Cheap meds! I've not had to use it yet, but am keeping it handy.

I'm learning a lot from the Feline Asthma Inhaled Meds group, though hope I won't have to be on it daily for too long.

Nicki today, playing one of his favourite games.
I started physio on Friday, have two appointments this coming week. For my hip/glute/lower back issue. I finally caved; I have to do something, because the chronic pain is affecting every aspect of my life. So I'll see how things go. She thinks she can help (of course she'd think that), and if I'm compliant and do the exercises the way I'm supposed to, I'm sure I'll see an improvement.

Dad and his partner/wife got back from their Mexico holiday on the 15th; all seems fine with them. I'm sure they're tanned and relaxed after 30 degree Celsius temps.

Mom, however, has a lot going on around her, not with her specifically, but with those in her circle. It turns out that one of the RCMP officers shot this weekend out in Alberta is the first cousin of a close friend ("N") of Mom's. N had told Mom this morning that the members of the family (including the officer's mother) who live in Nova Scotia have flown out and the officer would be taken off life support today. I've seen the headlines and heard a bit about the incident, but haven't followed it in depth yet.

Then, another long-time friend of Mom's just found out she has three brain tumours. She and her husband are still waiting for biopsy results, but it's not looking good. Apparently "B" had ended up at emerg a couple of weeks ago for an infection (bladder or kidney, I can't recall) that had gone through her entire body. She was admitted right away for treatment and has remained in. She's had some memory problems (for example, being sure the year is 2020), was sent for a CAT scan and an MRI last week. She's not even that old, is some years younger than Mom. I used to see her from time to time when I still lived in Halifax, so while I don't really know her, she's not a stranger to me; neither is her husband.

Holy crap. I really have no idea why I worry about anything at all, why I take things so seriously. Look what happens, out of the blue. One day you seem fine, the next you're shot in the line of duty or in emerg for an infection, but bam! it turns out you (likely) have malignant tumours in your brain and it's probably "game over" (B's apparent words, not my mom's).

Boy, eat that cake or chocolate, folks, because you just never know.

This SimpleReminder.com quote is perfect for the day:
Wishing everyone a peaceful, healthy and contented week ahead.

I'm glad to hear Nicki is doing well. I hope the physio helps. I think it will. Movement and therapy and exercises seem to always really make a difference.

Gosh, it's very sad about your mom's friends, but it is the human condition. We're all appointed to die. I definitely am not making light of it. It's always so hard to hear or think about, especially when it's people you know. That quote is so very true.

On a brighter note, it's good news that your dad is back safely and happily from his warm trip. It's a 3-day weekend here, so I'm happy to be having a leisurely Monday morning. I hope you have a good week!

Cancer is such a monstrous thing. A friend of mine just died of lymphoma. I've known her for 21 years. She was responding very well to treatment, and her biggest worry was not having much of an appetite. Then they discovered that it had come back and gave her three months to live. She died two weeks later. She was 54. That was a cruel thing.

Cancer is all the more terrible because there seems little that one can do to prevent it. Healthy or out of shape, old or young, rich or poor; it doesn't seem to matter. I hope your mum's friend experiences a miracle and destroys these tumours.

As for the police constable, it seems incredible that he could be shot over a stolen car; but the perpetrator evidently had a history of violence and gun-related crimes. Some judge probably thought he was doing a good deed by being lenient somewhere along the way. When did society start being run for the criminals instead of the victims?
Oh my...I feel awful for your Mom and all of those things going on around her! I have heard of that happening before with the bladder/kidneys...OMG.......and the brain tumors and all, so sad.
On a brighter note, your photo is just too cute and I hope you don't have to use the meds!

Good news about the cost of the Ventolin. Hopefully, you won't ever have to use it. I'm glad the Feline Asthma group is helpful, too.

That's some awful stuff with the officer who was shot, and B's brain tumors. You're absolutely right ... you just never know what tomorrow will bring.

Hugs to you and the boys.
