Busy Handful of Days

I had a good extra-long weekend, had taken Friday off for Nicki's vet appointment. That was surprisingly and mercifully quick -- his anal glands were very full and were easily expressed. I'm waiting for the vet to get back to me on a couple of things, one asthma-related for Nicki, and one allergy-related for Derry.

Regarding probable allergies (Derry), I Googled and read both vet and owner sites that state cats under 15 pounds can take 5 mg Loratadine (for allergy symptoms) daily. This was something I asked the vet about, but he'd not heard of the specific med (I take it daily right, now most common brand is Claritin, the regular one, NOT Claritin D). Anyway, I "risked" it Friday night and gave Derry the half-tablet (they come in tiny 10 mg pills and I have a pill splitter) and he was fine. He's had one a day for the past three days and I think they're helping--at least Derry's not sneezing and snuffling nearly as much and I'm not up every two hours all night, dosing him with the homeopathic stuff.

I got lots done re: errands, got more flower baskets for the back space. This is the first year I'm not actually doing any planting or potting of annuals for myself, but it would have entailed yet another taxi ride for huge bags of earth and I just can't be bothered.

I might still pick up another pot or two; right now I have six of them out there for colour.

 

Plus I finally repotted the Norfolk pine tree and put it outside till the fall. Last summer it just loved being out there and grew like a weed. It even grew over the winter (that top set of branches is its winter growth), so I'll see if it thrives again this year. If not, no big deal.

 

 

 

 

So I have the two purple ones from Costco, the gerberas from WalMart, the two pink New Guinea Impatiens from Home Depot and the pink geranium (with other flowers) from Loblaws (large grocery chain). Crappy Tire's garden centre was, well, crappy this year. Maybe they're just getting started.

Oh, I picked up my glasses from Costco. Um...They're good for distance, no question. Who knew my TV screen could look that sharp? They're not good for middle distances, so I'm not finding them useful right now for computer use. I'm also struggling with them for reading, I find my cheater reading glasses easier to use. I hope it's just a matter of time to adjust, because I'd hate to think I've wasted this money.

This week is promising to be a busy one. It's already been another crazy morning here, I have a workshop tomorrow afternoon from 1 to 4PM, we have that [fill in the blank with the appropriate adjective] team-building personality/HR thing out at the big boss's place on Wednesday (there goes almost the entire day), and then Thursday AM I'm headed to a downtown hotel with a few other staff members to finalize hotel conference details (we're hosting an Ontario-wide conference next month). And yet here I am, typing away doing an update. LOL.

Frankly, I'm ready for another day off!

On a happy note, next Monday is a holiday in Canada, the Victoria Day holiday, so it'll be another three days off. The down side, of course, will be the neighbours, but hey, you have to take the bad with the good.

So that's it. I need more coffee and then I really do need to get back to work.
