Update: Step-Dad and Work Session
I talked to Mom around 5PM my time.
She wasn't able to meet with the neurologist after all, as he was called away for an emergency. She hopes to meet with him tomorrow, sometime between 10AM and noon.
Harry's colour was good today, she said, but he's not showing any signs of recognition (of her, of his daughter, etc.) Still can't speak, is trying to mumble. No facial distortion, but the stroke was on his left side and he's unable to move his right limbs. He can move his left arm at least a bit, but Mom's not sure whether he can move his left leg.
That's pretty much all she has and therefore all the info I have. She was speaking as if he was going to come home in a day or two, but I told her there's no way that's going to happen. His daughter had told Mom that if Harry can't come home in the condition in which he left (pre-stroke), there's no way she (Mom) can care for him. Mom knows it, but I think she needs some sleep (got maybe a couple of hours last night) and more information. If--and it's a huge if--Harry's prognosis for recovery is even somewhat good (and I strongly doubt it is), it would take a long time and a lot of physical therapy, speech therapy, etc. He couldn't live at home while that was going on. I don't think Mom is quite grasping that yet.
It's not that I want Harry to pass, but I don't want him to live like this, either, if he can't recover to have even a bit of quality of life.
Anyway, maybe there will be more info when Mom finally gets a chance to connect with the neurologist.
My aunt made it there just fine and Mom's friend picked her up at the airport, spent the afternoon with her and still was there finishing up supper when I called. So that was good. And tomorrow Mom will take her sister to the hospital when she goes. Mom's not staying the entire day tomorrow--I asked. And the nurse told her there's no point in her staying, either.
So that's all I have.
As for the HR session out at the big boss's...I'm glad it's over. It was a long day. Lunch was great, with enough food to feed an army (courtesy of the boss), and it actually was a better setting for this kind of team thing than any meeting space at work would have been. I hope I said all the politically correct things and I hope we don't have follow through with it, though the boss already was making noise about doing just that. Maybe just noise, because who has the time for this?
Oh, I finally got my MRI appointment....I had called them yesterday afternoon to find out the status of my requisition, and when I got home today, presto! there was a message telling me to call back and book an appointment. Coincidence? Not likely. So I booked for June 9 at 9:30AM, and it's out in the west end of the city, so I won't be going to work beforehand, will go in after. That's presuming I don't need to fly to Halifax at that time, of course.
That's it. I'll try to update when I have further info. Please no one take it personally if I don't get a chance to visit your blog this week, to leave a comment.
