I'm Canadian, I'll b*tch about the weather if I want to

Yesterday our humidex made it feel like it was 98.6 F out there. Today, at lunch time, it feels like 96.8 F. It will be hotter by the time I leave at the end of the day.

Need I say that my townhouse is an oven?

I really dislike these extremes, from extreme cold for so many months to extreme heat. Or what I consider extreme heat.

We might live in a pretty good country, all in all, but gees, we got the short end of the stick when it comes to climate.

Mom and Harry's house will go on the market tomorrow. She sent me a preliminary link with all the pictures the realtor's photographer had taken. The house is stuck between the 1960s and 1980s and needs a lot of cosmetic work, but the bones are good, it's been well cared for, the yard is nice, there's lots of space to work with...so I hope, for Mom's sake, it not only sells relatively quickly but that she gets what she needs for the price too.

Harry remains in hospital, as he can't return to the private facility until he can get up with the assistance of just one person. Physio is working on it with him and slow progress is being made.

I have a wedding to go to on Saturday, looks like it will be an all afternoon/evening/into the night kind of deal. I didn't realize there was a dinner for select guests (there's another reception starting at 8 PM) until the groom emailed me yesterday and mentioned it, so I quickly had to arrange for the pet sitter to come in Saturday at supper time, for Nicki's meds and their food. I consider myself lucky that the sitter was available on such short notice, though the pet sitting company owner didn't think four days' notice was short.

I'm going to be stuck wearing slacks with a dressy top, as I don't own a dress or skirt or have any appropriate dress shoes, so I hope this heat wave really does break before the weekend. Otherwise it'll be "roast Kim" on the menu.  :-)

I'm off Friday and then all next week (Monday is a holiday), back to work on August 10th. Staycation. I have the Salvation Army booked on the 4th to take all the furniture and household goods currently in the garage ("at the driver's discretion"). I have to be home all day to wait for them, as they're slated to show up anywhere between 10AM and 4:30PM. Maybe, if I'm lucky, it will be earlier rather than later.

Then Nicki has his appointment on the 5th.

I'm concerned about someone still occasionally throwing up grass with blood. Back in June someone, I think Nicki, was throwing up a lot of small hairballs, and most of the stuff had some blood in it. I remember that happened with Annie, she broke blood vessels she'd cough so hard. So I didn't stress too much, but got the Furminator which took care of the issue, or so I'd hoped. However, two days ago when I got home from work, I found two spots in the basement, one with just blood (and saliva?) and one with grass and blood. Fair sized little puddles, not a tiny bit. That was the most blood I've seen and the first grass (no hair) ball in 2 - 3 weeks.

I can't say for sure it's Nicki, wish I could. I called my vet clinic yesterday and mentioned it, but because both boys are otherwise normal and this is sporadic only, they didn't think it was a crisis/panic situation (at least not yet). Something's amiss, though, some kind of internal irritation that's triggered every time one of them barfs.

I'll be discussing this with the vet next Wednesday, hope both boys will be fine over the upcoming long weekend.

There's always something to worry about, isn't there? I was in a state about it yesterday afternoon, scared to go home and scared not to (about what I'd find). I had to consciously take deep, calming breaths and tell myself that just because my modus operandi always has been to panic over everything didn't mean I had to this time. I wonder how many years of my life have been spent wringing my hands (figuratively and literally) about things over which I have no control.

Anyway, I'll need to take more deep breaths today as I head home and then check through the house for anything untoward.

That's it for today; I hope every out there is staying cool (or warm, as the case may be) and is worry-free, at least for today.

Peace.

I wonder anymore if there is such a state as worry free?

Even though much is stressful, you actually have a good handle on things. If it isn't six of one, it is half-a-dozen of another. But, it all comes out in the wash.

Lovely photos Kim.
I see on Saturday it is supposed to be much cooler so you should be good. No roasted Kim!
I can really relate to your worrying about the boys. I did the same thing over the years with our cats. As you say, discuss it with the vet, you know the boys the best.
I'm so glad you are having some time off work. You deserve it!
Take care Kim and try not to worry too much.

Wishing lots of good luck for your Mom with selling the house. Those ARE hgh temperatures to endure without air conditioning. Is there a way to at least cool your bedroom, such as with a window unit?
Blood in the cat barf would worry me too. I wonder if one of them has an ulcer. Do cats get ulcers?

I think so. I came home to find a mess, no fresh blood, just dark (blood or bile) with bits of something and one tiny bit of grass. I snapped a pic and sent it to my vet, who did call me about it (I called the clinic first). He said no, it's not normal to throw up blood with whatever else, but that it didn't look like an emerg situation.

A short time later I went back to the basement to do another check and found massive amounts of barfed-up cat grass in a corner -- I had brought some home yesterday and Derry in particular was gorging on that.

So it could be that both boys are puking, one grass, one blood...or one is...who knows.

Yes, cats must be able to get ulcers because the vet said we ought to get Nicki on sulphate (?), a chalky liquid to coat his stomach. That's assuming it's him, of course. I asked if there were tests he could do next week to see what's going on, but he said no. So presumably if it's Nicki, the medication will help. If it's not Nicki, Derry will have to get it.

I just read your last comment and sure hope between you and the vet, you guys can get to the bottom of this. I wouldn't know what to think either.

Your pictures are beautiful summer pics. It's hot here too with no end in sight, at least not for another week minimum and it's been this way for a while. We are very fortunate, however, that we have a/c.

I hope you enjoy the wedding!

Oh I feel for you without a/c. I spent the night at my daughter's apartment on Sunday (long story) and she only has a/c in the living room...as far from the bedroom as possible. It was a long, uncomfortable night. I tend not to run my at night but at least I can cool the house down before I go to bed.

I sure the vet can figure what is happening. My cats often hurl hairballs or grass but I've never found any blood. Perhaps one of them ate something that irritated the stomach and now it's gone...hope you find no more evidence.

I think a nice of slacks and a dressy top would be perfect, no worries about a dress or skirt riding up, slip showing, etc. Have a wonderful time!

Finding blood in the hork would certainly cause me to stress. Always something for sure. Hope those deep breaths help and maybe an ice bath to cool down.

We're worriers here, too, Kim. Sending you prayers and purrs of peace, and hugs.

Yes, there is always something to be concerned over. It's because we care so much. Nicki is going to the doctor on the fifth, so his possible part in the blood can be investigated. Other than that, there is little to be done except more watching. The boys will be fine over the weekend, I'm sure.
