Pricey staineless steel water dish

For some crazy reason, last week I impulsively bought the Pet Pioneer stainless steel raindrop pet fountain for the boys.

Neither of whom typically go near running water.

Anyhoooo....

It arrived yesterday, so I assembled it...and I don't want to admit how long it took me to get the pump into the plastic casing. I watched three YouTube videos, all of which showed the pump and casing already together, fresh out of the box. But not mine, oh no. And I'm rather inept when it comes to things like that. Finally, after a long time, much cursing and a bit of luck, it went together.

So I filled it up and plugged it in while it was on the counter...and had to take it all apart again to adjust the pump down to its lowest level. And then struggle to get the pump back into the casing, aligned correctly yet again.

Already it's a pain in the ass. Never mind that you have to change the filter every 2 - 4 weeks.

I put it by the patio door, where I typically have a water dish, except the cord wasn't long enough to reach the nearest outlet. ::Headdesk::

Then I moved it, got it set up and turned it on.

Well! Nicki's ears perked right up and he cautiously approached it, sniffed it, checked it out, and backed away. (Derry was outside at the time.)

At that point I figured it's going to end up being donated to the Gan. Humane Society when Dad is here in the fall.

I decided to move it back to where I normally keep their water dish and just let it sit there, unplugged, to see if the boys could get used to it. The manual does suggest doing this, for some cats who are particularly wary.

I had a bit more success after that; when Nicki came back inside he saw it right away, checked it out, and actually drank a little bit from it.

I'll leave it as is for a few days, pick up a surge-protected extension cord, then try it plugged in, see if they get used to it.

However, I suspect this will end up being a very pricey stainless steel static water dish, in which case I will donate it. Surely the shelter will have cats that will use it, if mine don't become accustomed to it. And yeah, I could send it back, but shipping costs are so high, even within Canada, that it probably wouldn't be worth the effort to me.

Let this be a lesson to all regarding those impulse purchases!  :-)
