Staycation day 2: The Wedding Crasher

Yesterday was staycation day 2 and I was the wedding crasher, or so it felt.

The groom's parents and ex-wife picked me up and we all drove out to the couple's cottage outside the city, where the ceremony was being held. I hadn't seen his parents in oh, at least a decade if not more, and then only briefly. I don't really know them -- I used to see them more often when my ex and I would spend time with the groom and his ex-wife -- the four of us were good friends at the time and had a lot of fun together. I didn't know anyone else there, either, particularly on the other groom's side (same sex couple marriage).

I did feel like the wedding crasher, not having any close tie to the groom I used to know -- I see him maybe once or twice a year to catch up, but our lives have diverged and there's not a lot of common ground, only the past.

Still, it was lovely to see them married and it the ceremony was conducted by a very cool-looking female United Church minister.

I did go with them to the dinner in town, upstairs in one of the pubs, as I'd been invited to that for some reason I can't fathom. Of course I had the salmon, I never pass up salmon, and it was delicious. I skipped out after dinner and before the "real" partying started, though, not being able to take the young, loud, already drunk crowd. (There's a 19-year age difference between the grooms and it wasn't hard to tell which "side" was which.) I'd never been so glad to get home; I was the only introvert there, that's for sure.

I won't post people pics, since I don't have permission to do so (though they probably wouldn't care, they all have FB and everything already is up on everyone's pages, I'm sure), but I'll post some of the other pics I snapped. I'd love to be out there without a crowd, just the peace and quiet.

The younger groom's family has these tame ducks,
you actually can pat them (I didn't, though I went close).
There was a brief but intense storm shortly after the ceremony.
The timing was perfect.

 A neighbour's little boat
Up close with the young ducks; they're still growing their feathers.
I wish the couple a lifetime of happiness together. They do seem well-suited, in spite of the age difference.

And I'm looking forward to a quiet staycation day 3!

Peace.

Looks like a lovely wedding. All your photos are beautiful. Love the ducks. I find I'm none too comfortable in the young, loud, drunk crowd anymore either. I just want to get home! Take care and have a quiet Day 3.
Beautiful photos =)
Enjoy the rest of your staycation!

I never stay long at parties I'm invited to, either. Just long enough to renew my acquaintances, then back home to the cats.

What a beautiful setting for a wedding! I think we would have wanted to go home where it was quiet, too. Just saying. :)
