Of compression socks and other things

Hmm. Well, I had a doctor's appointment today to check out some ongoing leg issues (the right leg this time, not the left). I thought maybe it would be time to try orthotics again.

No, no...It is time to start wearing compression stockings, though. For the varicose veins that apparently are causing the superficial leg stinging, etc.

She sent off a prescription for two pairs; I'll pick them up on the weekend. No doubt they'll be hideous and uncomfortable.

Compression stockings.

I'm supposed to start wearing compression stockings.

Thank you, genetics. (Varicose veins run on my dad's side of the family.)

So if I find they work, I'm going to look for fun compression stockings. Because I feel like the most unattractive middle-aged woman on the planet right now.

I'm not sure if they sell the right compression for me, but if not, I'll look for another company that carries fun and funky stockings. 

I already feel dowdy, why should I look dowdy too?

I sent my coworker a quick email this morning. She did reply a little later in the day, said the shock of her mom's death was starting to wear off and at least for that moment, she was feeling a bit stronger, enough to help her dad today. We're still waiting to see if there will be a visitation or service. My continued "prayers" to her and her family. BTW, her mom's name was Judith Anne...exactly my own mom's name.

And as for my mom: The sale of her house has gone through and she's rented a HUGE three bedroom apartment for November 1st. I'm not sure which layout she has (I've looked at the building online), but it's either the 1482 square foot or 1450 square foot apartment. That's far larger than my little townhouse! It has in-suite laundry and storage room, two full bathrooms, a large kitchen with tons of cupboards, a dishwasher, etc., balcony...oh, and she'll be on the second floor, end unit, no one across from her. She'll be far better set up than I am, that's for sure, but even so, it will be an adjustment from a house for 30+ years.

BTW, yesterday's intense day finished up in a weird way: with a couple on campus walking down the street in full wedding regalia, he in a tux and she in full white gown with flowing train. They seemed to be stopping to pose for two students who were with them taking pics; otherwise they were unaccompanied. We speculated that it was a photo shoot for something, because surely a real wedding wouldn't take place during class time on a Tuesday, with no wedding party.

Other than the whole compression stocking/varicose vein thing, today was calm, without the intense energy of the day before. Mercifully.
